"Titanic"
Everett Collection

"Titanic"

"Titanic" is the universally beloved historical-fiction retelling of the real-life 1912 sinking of the Titanic, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as two passengers who meet and fall in love on the ship's doomed maiden voyage. While "Titanic"'s intermittent returns to Netflix are usually cause for celebration among fans of the Oscar-winning film, the announcement that it'll hit the streamer on July 1 is being met with criticism.

The movie will stream once again on Netflix just under two weeks after the implosion of the OceanGate Titan submersible on June 18, which occurred during a tourist dive to see the Titanic wreckage nearly 13,000 feet deep in the North Atlantic Ocean. The tragedy led to the death of OceanGate's CEO, Stockton Rush, and four tourists on board.

Some Netflix subscribers see the decision to bring "Titanic" back to the streamer weeks after the OceanGate tragedy as capitalizing off its victims' deaths (though, it should be noted, "Titanic" was actually already slated to hit the streamer before the Titan was reported missing).
