Betty White, Elderly Actors

Buzz In: Which Elderly Actors Should Get More Roles?

It has been a real treat to see Betty White out and about promoting her new movie The Proposal. She's a hilarious talk show guest and she's the best part of this viral marketing clip. She is also quite the scene stealer in the movie itself and gives one of the performances that helps to save the rom-com from mediocrity. In other words, please cast her in more movies! She's obviously a comedic gem.

Hollywood does not tend to love the elderly folks, even though that age bracket contains some of the most talented actors and actresses around. Jessica Walter (Gangy!) is another example of someone who should be much busier, in my opinion (and not on a show like 90210, thanks). I'd also be tickled pink to see the lovely and talented Marla Gibbs get more work.

What do you think? What other older actors would you like to see get more roles?

There are so many!! I agree about Betty White and those already mentioned. I also miss some of the actors, not quite as old like Tom Selleck, Barry Bostwick, Joe Montagna, Jacklyn Smith and Susan Saint James who are not seen a lot.

Betty White was great. But I am dying to know who made Sandra Bullock's sunglasses in that scene? They look beautiful on her. Does anyone know?

Jessica Walter, Richard Herrmann, Maggie Smith, Lois Smith, Kelly Bishop...and I know Judi Dench and Helen Mirren get lots of work already, but they're both such great actresses that I hope they both keep getting lots of work!

Definitely there are so many old timers that should get more roles and give us a chance to watch some real talent again. Marla Gibbs should have her own sitcom! She was one of the best at delivering lines. Sadly the writers don't live up to the comedic writers of the past.

I love Cloris Leechman(sp?) when she was in Spanglish. And I'd love to see Gena Roland

Betty White does get work; it's more of an issue with who should not be getting work (Megan Fox, Lindsay Lohan, anyone from The Hills). and there are tons of obscenely talented older actors that ought to get even more roles: Ed Asner, Christopher Plummer (just saw Up yesterday!), Edward Hermann, Jessica Wakter, Jeffrey Tambor (the dad on Arrrested Development), Larry David, Julie Christie, Gena Rowlands, James Garner, Vanessa Redgrave; I could go on an on forever. the problem is that, obviously, you can't just cast an older actor in any part. what needs to happen is better written movies with more substance need to be written instead of all the stupid crap that is out there...

Sarah beat me too it. I was going to say Mrs. Bluth too! I also love Edward Herrmann (Richard on Gilmore Girls).
