Thank you for your post Girl Friday, I will watch out for that movie. :)

Probably very few of you have heard of it, cause I don't think it's out in the states yet... but I was hoping this excellent Romanian film, 4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days would be nominated in the foreign film category. Of course I am biased, being Romanian myself, but - it really was a moving film that I felt well portrayed the difficulties women faced during communism (where abortion was outlawed and it was difficult to get birth control). And it won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, so there are other people out there who thought it was good! If you have a chance to see it, I encourage you to go. Don't be put off by the subtitles - plus if you understand Italian or Portuguese, probably you will understand a lot of the Romanian language because it's similar.

WHY ARE YOU COMMENTING ON MOVIES YOU GUYS HAVEN'T EVEN SEEEEEN!! people, commenting isn't necessary. if you don't know what youre talking about then don't say anything. comments: "i havent seen any of these movies but..." are annoying. as someone who has seen all of them.. Id say the ongoing snub that Oscar has against Ridley Scott is unwarranted, as American Gangster should be up there (and isn't at all). Also undermentioned is 3:10 to Yuma. Why are there no Asian movies mentioned in the foreign films? I mean, there were so many great ones to choose from this year! Lastly, I think we should all be honest and admit we're happy to see Angelina isn't there.

Now I haven't watched almost any of these movies, but I agree that Tim Burton, Christian Bale and Ben Foster are underrated. As for Johnny Depp, how many times are they going to nominate the man and not give him anything? Jesus, he's amazing I can't believe he's never won. Also I haven't watched hairspray but the trailers are good enough for me to say they probably should've given the makeup nomination Norbit (WTF I know great makeup but they always nominate Eddie Murphy movies in this category) got to Hairspray. Also, am I the ONLY HUMAN BEING on this planet who hated Enchanted?!!!

Hello?! No love for Hairspray!!! That is the biggest snub of all. I can see why it didn't get any noms for acting as the cast was huge and most of the performances were fairly quirky. But what about direction or costume or set design or makeup? Or original score and song? I can't beleive that Enchanted got three noms for original song and they couldn't even nominate 'Come so far, Got so far to go'. Bullshit. That's all I'm saying! Also, why all the love for Michael Clayton? That movie was so convinced of it's own brilliance, it was boring and confusing.

Tim Burton got robbed. I am so excited about Juno and Ellen Page though! I really want to see Atonement, I'm seeing it tomorrow. Tim Burton forever!

Eddie Vedder should have been nominated for Best Original Song!! But, the song from Once is fantastic and I hope they win. Hopefully there is an award show just so they can perform...

I haven't seen everything, so I can't really judge. But I found the comments very interesting. Phasekitty, I love you books to movies blogs! :)

Keira and James for Atonement and Tim Burton for Sweeney Todd (I can kind of see it not being nominated for BP but seriously, he did amazing things with that film and totally deserved at least a nomination for Directing).

3:10 to YUMA got totally robbed. The movie single-handedly breathed new life in to the western genre and the stars (Christian Bale, Russell Crowe, who they seem bent on ignoring after his wins a few years ago, and of course, Ben Foster) deserved some recognition for their hard work and wonderful film. I am so upset on this one. I hate westerns and I LOVED THIS MOVIE! Oh and Depp gets love for Sweeney (which was fabulous), but no more love for the final Pirates.... such a shame. .

is Cate blanchet that good?? I like her job, but... I think it is becoming a tradition to nominate her in two categories...

yiddidea- I agree 100%! Ben Foster is such an amazing talent that needs to be recognized soon! I used to think it was just me (I've got a thing for boys that have a little bit of crazy going on behind their eyes...), but a lot of people have commented on how awesome he was in 3:10 so I feel justified :) Katiefrog- don't be afraid to see Atonement because of the book- trust me, it totally does it justice. I loved both the book and the movie, if you want some more reassurance, you can look at my Book to Film comparison here:

@Katiefrog I've seen both Juno and Hard Candy. Page's performance in Juno--sarcastic and witty but with a heart of gold--stands miles apart in my mind to her in Hard Candy. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the idea of Hard Candy but found her performance lacking believability. Either way she is still one of the most talented young actresses out there today.

Sarah Polley's direction in Away From Her. This was one of the most beautiful movies I have seen in ages.

I haven't seen any of these movies but I know initially there was a lot of buzz around Atonement that seems to have died down significantly. I love the book so I'm afraid to see it. I haven't seen Juno but I'm skeptical about Ellen Page. I saw her in Hardy Candy and I have seen parts of Juno, and I feel like she is just playing a wise-cracking, sarcastic teen again. In Hard Candy I really felt like she did come across as authentic...I don't know how to explain it but it really felt like a performance. Maybe if I saw all of Juno I would feel differently.

Phasekitty - Good call! How could I forget about Ben Foster?? He was brilliant in 3:10 to Yuma. Heck, he was brilliant in Alpha Dog too. At some point someone needs to notice his talents.

There were probably a lot of good ones that didn't get a nod, but I am so happy that Angelina didn't get one. I am so tired of her.

There are a few I'm bummed about: Tim Burton, Sean Penn, Into the Wild, etc. I'm only annoyed that Angelina didn't get nominated because I took the time to watch A Mighty Heart this weekend thinking it would be one of the nominated films. :oy: There is one snub that I feel so strongly about: Ben Foster!!! Russell Crowe and Christian Bale were fantastic in 3:10, but Ben Foster outshone them all. He was phenomenal and he hasn't been recognized once this awards season, not even with a nom. I'm sooo annoyed by this! :IRK:  :mob:

I was too busy being excited that Juno and Ellen Page got nominated to even worry about who got robbed.
