CBGB Trailer: Malin Akerman, Rupert Grint, and Justin Bartha Are Punk Icons

One of New York's most famous nightclubs is getting the big-screen treatment in CBGB, and the big draw here is the ensemble cast, which has tons of recognizable actors playing famous punk rockers. Malin Akerman is Debbie Harry, The Foo Fighters' Taylor Hawkins is Iggy Pop, and Rupert Grint and Justin Bartha also pop up as punk artists who played at the music venue (I really like the touch of Sting's daughter Mickey Sumner as Patti Smith, since Keene McRae is playing a young Sting). The trailer shows us how owner Hilly Kristal (Alan Rickman) built up the Manhattan club into a hub of punk music, with the help of his daughter Lisa (Ashley Greene).

Besides the long list of actors in '70s garb, the movie looks pretty fun — and like a fitting memorial to the legendary club, which closed in 2006. I'm not sure I buy Rickman and Greene as father and daughter, but their relationship seems like it could be an interesting dynamic. CBGB comes out Oct. 11, and you can watch the trailer after the jump.
