The trailer for Dallas Buyers Club is here, and like the first pictures from the movie, the preview is eye-opening. It's not just for the actors' looks, it's for their performances. An emaciated Matthew McConaughey plays Ron Woodroof, a hard-partying Texan who learns he has AIDS in the early 1980s. Told he has just 30 days to live, Ron becomes unsatisfied with current treatments and heads to Mexico for more effective — but unapproved — drugs. Soon he's running a club of sorts, bringing the drugs back into the US for other patients, including transgendered Rayon (Jated Leto). Is he a drug dealer or an angel?
Jennifer Garner also costars in the drama as one of Ron's doctors, but it's clear that the heavy performances are going to be from McConaughey and Leto. McConaughey doesn't get to show off his dramatic acting chops often enough, so I'm eager to see him in such a demanding role, but Leto could end up being the standout here; even with a few lines, he impressed me in the trailer. Dallas Buyers Club comes out Nov. 1 — right on time for award season consideration — and you can watch the trailer after the jump.
