Are ED Ads Any More Indecent Than Anything Else on TV?

Sure, commercials for erectile dysfunction can be annoying, but are they indecent? Folks in Washington seem to think so and are attempting to ban ads for ED. Here's more:

Last week, Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) re-introduced a bill that would effectively ban broadcasters from airing any ads for erectile dysfunction, or "male enhancement," between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., essentially mandating that such ads fall under the FCC's enforcement of indecency.

And yet, shows like Gossip Girl come on at 8 p.m. — is that show more "decent" than a Cialis commercial? What do you think?

I agree with the amazement of shows like GG being on at 8! I think these ads as well as birth control etc. are okay to play earlier on just depends on the program you are watching. If you air it during a family type show like American Idol it could lead to my child asking questions about it etc. It's not like you see 2 people rolling around in the sac in the ad its pretty tame and you can mute it.

They aren't indecent per say, but I would rather not be bombarded by commercials for pills meant for erections. I think the medical community has a male bias, as in treatments/problems for men are concentrated on more than those for women due to the medical community being mostly male. I just think it reflects it that we have so many commercials for something dealing with penises. Something like menopause probably affects more people but you don't see as many commercials or options for that ya know? This may seem kinda out there but it's just my feminist opinion. I don't have a problem with the ads just a problem with the fact that it's so publicized as this huge thing while women's health problems are ignored.

There is no commercial more disturbing than the Liberator catheter commercial. It's on YouTube. Are you reusing catheters?"Holly was forced to reuse catheters. Her health benefits didn't cover her for a new sterile catheter for every time she had to cath. 'I was so sick of boiling, and drying, and reusing old catheters. Plus, I was getting urinary tract infections.'"

This reminds me of something I keep saying to myself in my head: I can't believe Gossip Girl is on at 8! Every week it astounds me.

They bug me, but I don't think I have seen one that I would call indecent.

they're not indecent, but get them off the air. or let's at least work on making birth control as affordable as ED treatments.

This is a bit ridiculous. They're silly, but not indecent.

These are the same morons that wanted tampax, women's maxi pad, and Massengail douche ads off tv cause it's embrassing to men. They need to grow up. I personally hate ads for baby products (they make me all teary eyed when I'm PMSing). This lame politician and anyone siding with him need to learn to use their remote controls to channel surf like the people who have brains do.

Who is this joker, wasting time and taxpayer money with this nonsense?? Those ads are so careful to be ambiguous that I doubt any kids would even know what they're talking about. I mean they don't even call it erectile dystfunction, they call it ED, for crying out loud!

This is ridiculous, who really cares? Is there nothing else to be purposing legislation on? I'm glad that politicians can really make a difference, like getting ED commercials off the tv during times when children *gasp* might see. Who cares? Sex is everywhere! You won't be protecting children from anything and if you're uncomfortable with telling your children about it then you probably shouldn't be a parent in the first place. Sheesh. They should do something useful in Washington not this kind of bs.

This is way too extreme. Not the worst thing on the television by far...

While I hate ED commercials (especially Smilin' Bob), they aren't any worse than a lot of commercials. Take the Hardee's commercials for instance. There is always some half dressed woman eating a burger with about a hundred sexual innuendos in the voice over.
