First Look: Atonement

I was just saying how super cute I think James McAvoy is and here we are with a new full-length trailer for his WW II period movie Atonement, based on the novel by Ian McEwan and also starring Keira Knightley. Another reason I'm intrigued by this movie: Saoirse Ronan, the young Irish actress who was recently cast to play Susie in Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Lovely Bones plays a key role.

From what I can tell in the trailer, McAvoy's character Robbie and Knightley's character Cecilia are having an illicit love affair when Ronan's character Briony accuses Robbie of something and he's sent away. The trailer has that desperately romantic period piece feeling to it, so to check it out before the movie opens December 7 in the U.S. (September 7 in the UK),

I'll probably see it when it comes out on dvd. I love movies that take place in the past, especially war periods.

I just finished this book and the movie looks like I envisioned the story. The descriptive passages were lush and the book will probably translate into a good film. I think the casting is perfect.

I love the book and I love Keira Knightley, so I'm definitely looking forward to this movie. It's just too bad that we in the US have to wait three months longer than those in the UK to see it! :\
