Full List of Winners For 2009 Oscars

Announcing the Winners: The 2009 Oscars!

Slumdog Millionaire was the big winner Sunday night at the Oscars in Hollywood, taking home the awards for Best Picture, Best Director, and six others. Slumdog nearly swept all of the categories in which it was nominated, winning eight of the awards out of 10 nominations.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button led the nominations with 13 nods, but it ended up with only three awards and was shut out of most major categories; its honors came in the visual categories, with recognition for art direction, makeup, and visual effects.

In other big news, Kate Winslet finally won her first Oscar out of six lifetime nominations, delivering a heartfelt and emotional speech in accepting her award for The Reader. Penelope Cruz took home the night's first award, for Best Supporting Actress, and Sean Penn won the Best Actor award for Milk in what was considered a highly contested battle between him and The Wrestler's Mickey Rourke.

It was an awesome show! I really like all the changes they made but I'm wondering...how are they going to top that for next year? I also agree Rourke should have won and am glad Kate won. I also wish Peter Gabriel's song for Wall-E would have won over 'Jai Ho'.

Pioneers, I know this gonna sound kinda weird, but it was very political in my perspective. Obama won for president, we have this small movie doing wonders, so let's give the best actor to a actor playing gay. I dunno, I think the Academy was really trying to play "modern", and showing it's versatility. But that's just me. ;)

As excellent as I thought Penn was, I was really hoping that Rourke would get the award...his performance was stellar to say the least.

I am so glad Kate Winslet won!! Shes a great actress, plus it makes me think of the "Extras" episode she was in - "Everyone's asking, when is Winslet going to win one?!" And she even got it for playing a part in a Holocaust film! Now she and her husband can polish their Oscars together ;)

i;m from australia, and they're showed it here live at 10am, and i was at school so i didn't get to watch it, so i'm just wondering, how was it? Did they actually make any changes to the show so it was more interesting? Or was it same old, same old?
