The Giver Trailer

Meryl Streep Takes Center Stage in the Trailer For The Giver

The full trailer for The Giver has arrived, and it looks way more intense than the book. Brenton Thwaites stars as Jonas, who lives in an insulated community of perfectly uniform workers and "families." Everything changes when he meets the "Giver," played by Jeff Bridges. It's now Jonas's job to take over for the old man, who holds all the memories (good and bad) prior to the formation of their society. As he learns the truth about the past and how their community functions, his world is turned upside down. He even starts to see color, Pleasantville-style. We also get to see Alexander Skarsgard and Katie Holmes as Jonas's parents, but the real star of the trailer is Meryl Streep, as the quietly intimidating Chief Elder. The Giver comes out Aug. 15, and in case you're not familiar with the story, here's everything you need to know.

Also, check out the teaser trailer for a look at Taylor Swift as Rosemary.

I was excited and worried about them making this as it's my absolute favorite childhood novel and this...other than the names and the basic premise is NOT that story at all. :(

I haven't read it since middle school, but I always pictured everything in black and white for some reason - wasn't the discovery of color something in the book? Am I totally off?
