J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, is moving full steam ahead to the big screen. The movie trilogy has its principal cast assembled, with Eddie Redmayne taking the lead, and the story follows a character who exists 70 years before Potter's time. Though Rowling said that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to Harry Potter's story, she confirmed that the new series is an "extension of the wizarding world" and that "the laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films." Production has already kicked off, and the world got even more excited when Entertainment Weekly released the first look at Redmayne as Newt Scamander. There were also quite a few new details unearthed, so we've compiled all that and everything else there is to know about the upcoming franchise.
