Though some of these will make you shed a tear, they'll also give you a heavy dose of Christmas cheer. Warning: mistletoe will be involved.

While You Were Sleeping

Don't even try to argue with me when I say this is some of Sandra Bullock's finest work. She plays a lonely train station worker who saves the man she has a crush on (Peter Gallagher) from death by train, but he still ends up in a coma. Through a crazy mix-up, his family assumes she's his fiancée, and she becomes so involved with their family that she can't bear to tell them that she's a stranger. She falls for his brother (Bill Pullman), and it's a romantic mess! The best kind of holiday movie.

Four Christmases

Four Christmases

Anyone with divorced parents can relate to this comedy. Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn love the holidays, because it means they can ditch their dysfunctional families and go on a tropical vacation together. When their flight gets canceled and they're caught on the news at the airport, they're forced to attend all four of their families' festivities. Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek, Jon Voight, Jon Favreau, Mary Steenburgen, and Kristin Chenoweth all costar.

Just Friends

Ryan Reynolds plays a formerly plus-sized geek who returns home for the holidays as a slick Hollywood executive. He really just wants to impress his high school best friend/crush (Amy Smart), but one of his clients (Anna Faris) has followed him to town — and she's straight-up insane. It's the ultimate Christmas rom-com.

The Family Stone

The Family Stone

There's just something about The Family Stone. Sarah Jessica Parker plays a tightly-wound woman meeting her boyfriend's (Dermot Mulroney) family for the first time . . . and they hate her. She ends up connecting with his laid-back brother (Luke Wilson), and suddenly you're not watching a comedy anymore. By the end, you're sobbing. Why is this movie so good? Is it the scene when the Morton family strata ends up all over the kitchen floor? I don't know. I just like it.

Bridget Jones's Diary
Miramax

Bridget Jones's Diary

It's hard to top the original Bridget Jones's Diary. Renée Zellweger is charming and relatable as she falls for Colin Firth's Mark Darcy. Though it's not technically a holiday romance, it's hard to ignore the Christmas sweaters and snowy London backdrop.

Surviving Christmas

Ben Affleck is a successful (yet awful) businessman who rents out the family currently living in his childhood home for the holidays. Yes, this is a real movie, and yes, he falls in love with the daughter of the new owners of the home, played by Christina Applegate. James Gandolfini and Catherine O'Hara also star in the comedy.

About a Boy

About a Boy

OK, I know, you may not think About a Boy belongs on this list. After all, it's much more about the relationship between a man (Hugh Grant) and a weird kid who wants to be his friend (Nicholas Hoult). However, there are definitely romantic elements, and I'm not just talking about the forced (yet obviously doomed) pairing with the kid's mom (Toni Collette). Christmas also plays an important role, as Grant's character is living off the royalties from his father's holiday tune, and there are Christmas scenes in the movie.

Elf

Elf

Lest you forget, Elf isn't just a comedy about a giant elf who comes to New York City to find his biological father. It's also a romance starring Zooey Deschanel! Buddy falls for Jovie, and though you may think it's weird that an adult woman would want a relationship with a man who is essentially a giant child, they hit it off by the end of the movie. It's less creepy than it sounds.

The Holiday

The Holiday

Not only does half of this movie take place on a snowy English countryside, it's all leading up to the holidays. Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet play women who decide to swap houses for the period of time and end up finding love — and themselves. It's beautiful, just like Jude Law's face.

Love Actually

Love Actually

Though not everyone actually love this movie (ahem, me), the world seems to have deemed it The Best Holiday Movie Ever. It would be a severe oversight not to include it on this list, seeing as it does include roughly 1242 romances. There are so many, in fact, that you may have forgotten about some!
