Keep reading to get the juiciest tidbits.

POPSUGAR: What have you learned about love that you don't think Emily Fields has learned yet?

Shay Mitchell: I would say what I have learned about love is that everything happens for a reason. Each person is another stepping stone. She's a mess and I think Emily right now would not be able to take that advice very well considering she's still really upset with you know Paige not being here and stuff.

PS: Do you think Emily is the character that's most like you? Or is there one that resonates with you more?

SM: If I could take pieces from each of the characters, that would kind of be the compilation of what makes up me. . . . I think there's little traits from each of the girls that I would take.

PS: Oh, this is fun. Which traits would you take? And from whom?

SM: I think from Emily, I would take her honesty and the fact that she's extremely loyal to all of her friends. I would take from Hannah her fashion sense and some of those subtle comments that are funny but you're also like, "What the hell?" I have some of those. I would take Spencer's dry humor and wit. I would take Aria's wanting to be independent and to be different sometimes too.

PS: Speaking of Emily, I feel like she's really coming into her own this season. She's much stronger. What do you think has changed?

SM: I think everything that's happened to all of the girls has really forced them to grow up. Especially Emily. I think you've seen the most difference [in her]. Because of who she was when she was introduced to everyone in the pilot. She was calm, and quiet, and obedient. . . . Now she's like "OK! We gotta figure this out!" She's become very protective of her friends.

PS: Was there any time that you and Emily were experiencing the same thing in your love lives?

SM: No! Emily's love life is a lot more active. She's seen a lot more people than I have. So we're never really on the same page.

PS: What do you wished you'd known about dating five years ago?

SM: I wish I would have known how to be myself a little more instead of trying to be a chameleon or trying to play what I thought that person might have wanted. . . . You know, what I tell a lot of girls that are going on first dates, or blind dates, or whatever it is, is to just be yourself. Because, really and truly, if you're not . . . then that person will see it eventually. You want them to love you for who you are. So, I think you should start that off from the first day.

PS: That's so true! What about breakups? Is there any sort of advice you would offer to someone who is going through their first heartbreak?

SM: I would say, again, that everything happens for a reason. Time heals everything. It probably seems like the worst thing in the world right now, but you'll get through it. You'll be fine without that person. You'll be fine after that person.

PS: Growing up, did you have any celebrity crushes?

SM: Jonathan Taylor Thomas.

PS: Obviously, Emily and Paige are kind of on the rocks right now. And Emily just ended her new relationship. Where do you see her going next?

SM: You know if I could write the story . . . I would like Emily to go to some faraway island with no technology whatsoever. So she can just relax for a minute. But, as we know, that's not going to happen in Rosewood. So, I would say Emily is a strong character and she will move on. But obviously, there are going to be those weak moments when she does miss Paige. Who knows?

PS: Let's talk about the SweeTARTS Get Roped In dating show. What it was like to participate in something like that?

SM: Well it's not every day that you get to play cupid. I'm very excited about that! And I've also been a huge fan of these YouTube stars that we're setting up. I was actually pretty excited to match up other people up and get them on blind dates.

PS: What do you think was the hardest part about playing cupid?

SM: They couldn't date all three of the contestants! I always felt bad when the two other contestants didn't get the chance to go out on a date with them. That's kind of the hard part, is letting those ones go. You're like, "Bye . . . don't lose so much hope." So much fun doing the little challenge things. . . . They were just really fun little games that they would play. So a lot of laughs happened in that audience and on stage. So, i'm really excited to sharing that with everyone now.

PS: Did you have a favorite blooper moment that had everyone laughing?

SM: I think with all of the challenges there definitely was something funny that happened with each of those. . . . It's actually superfunny. But, imagine having to incorporate the candy with different challenges. There's going to be some intense bloopers happening with that.
