Jarvis Cocker Gets Smart on NPR's Fresh Air

Jarvis Cocker Gets Smart on NPR's Fresh Air

I finally got my hands on Jarvis Cocker's very excellent solo CD, Jarvis, after listening to the addictive single "Don't Let Him Waste Your Time" many, many, many times. But after hearing the Pulp frontman's recent interview on NPR's "Fresh Air," I love him even more.

I always suspected that the scribe behind "Common People" (off of my favorite Pulp album, Different Class) was a pretty smart guy. But he's even more charming than I thought. In this radio interview with Terry Gross, Cocker talks about the Brit-Pop "invasion" of the 1990s, the inspiration behind some of his new and old songs, and how his National Health-issued eyeglasses suddenly became hip. If you love Jarvis and Pulp, I highly recommend you give this a listen, and for the uninitiated, I really can't think of a better introduction to this infinitely cool artist.

I know so little about Pulp even though the few songs of theirs I've heard are really good. (Whip, I also tend to put Common People on party/getting pumped mixes.) Perhaps you can educate me via your nifty knew Getting Into feature, Buzz?

I heart Jarvis Cocker! I caught him live several weeks ago and he was such a great performer. I wish Pulp would follow in the Spice Girls' footsteps and have a reunion tour!!

Terry Gross is hands down one of the best interviewers ever. Fresh Air is one of NPR's very best programs.
