Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss in The Hunger Games Picture

First Look: Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss in The Hunger Games!

Katniss has arrived! On the cover of the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, we get our first look at Jennifer Lawrence as the star of The Hunger Games. Lawrence has Katniss's signature brown hair, arrows, and the gold mockingjay pin, and as a superfan, I can honestly say that I'm very pleased with how she looks. In the interview, Lawrence talks about the experience of taking on the role.

  • On accepting the part: “I knew that as soon as I said yes, my life would change. And I walked around an entire day thinking ‘It’s not too late, I could still go back and do indies, I haven’t said yes yet, it’s not too late."
  • On telling director Gary Ross how her Oscar experience mirrored Katniss's in the Capitol: "He was asking me what the experience was like, and I just kind of opened up and said, ‘I feel like a rag doll. I have hair and makeup people coming to my house every day and putting me in new, uncomfortable, weird dresses and expensive shoes, and I just shut down and raise my arms up for them to get the dress on, and pout my lips when they need to put the lipstick on.’ And we both started laughing because that’s exactly what it’s like for Katniss in the Capitol. She was a girl who’s all of a sudden being introduced to fame. I know what that feels like to have all this flurry around you and feel like, ‘Oh, no, I don’t belong here.'"
  • On being a fan of the books: “I love this story, and if I had said no, I would regret it every day.”

How do you feel about Lawrence in all of her Hunger Games glory? Is she what you envisioned?

I actually said 'wow' out loud. Looks great! I wasn't expecting this casting choice to be a good one, but I think I am gonna be proved wrong!

Spectacular. She looks much better than I imagined and I've always been excited for this casting choice. This is a fun movie to anticipate.

I'd always thought she would make a great Katniss. The casting has been pitch perfect, let's hope they won't ruin this movie with bad CGI. That would be tragic.

She looks good, but heavily photoshopped. I'm still skeptical. I'll be tuning in for her on Letterman on Thursday in order to see what it really looks like.
