Kerry Washington [1] graced the NAACP Image Awards with her presence on Friday night, and between hitting the red carpet and mingling with some of her Scandal costars [2], she reunited with Yara Shahidi [3], the actress who played the young version of her character Olivia Pope in a series of flashbacks during the show's third season. Yara, who now stars as Zoey Johnson on the hit ABC comedy Black-ish [4], was all smiles as she met up with Kerry on the red carpet.

Aside from her cameo as a childhood version of Olivia Pope, Yara — who turns 16 next week! — has also admitted to taking style and confidence cues from the woman who portrays her. In an interview with InStyle last year [5], Yara said she wears things that are "far too conservative for a teenager." She added, "[Kerry] taught me that, as a young actress, not to change you who are or your values or morals for a role, because what's really authentic is when someone is true to who they are."
