We finally have a look at Angelina Jolie's directorial debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey, which she also wrote. It's a tale of two lovers set during the Bosnian war in the early '90s, and the trailer first presents them passionately intertwined as a war rages on outside. It's clear that these two are on opposite sides — Ajla (Zana Marjanovic) is a Bosnian Muslim woman and Danijel (Goran Kostic) is a Serbian guard. Though they fall in love, the battle in the region threatens to pull them apart, as he questions if he can even trust her.
Though there's no appearance by the film's famous director (the parts are filled by Bosnian actors), Jolie's first film looks sweepingly romantic, but it doesn't look like it holds back any requisite intensity of a wartime drama. It certainly looks promising, and I'm super curious to see how the entire film unfolds when it's released on Dec. 23. You can watch the trailer yourself when you keep reading.
