Listen Up: "Funny the Way It Is" by Dave Matthews Band

Listen Up: "Funny the Way It Is" by Dave Matthews Band

I just watched this video in which the members of Dave Matthews Band talk about their upcoming album, Big Whiskey & The GrooGrux King, and express their grief over the death of saxophonist LeRoi Moore. Then, feeling a little misty-eyed, I downloaded the band's new single from the album, "Funny the Way It Is."

"Funny the Way It Is" isn't anything too different from DMB, but that doesn't mean it's not a good tune. It's catchy and marches right along with DMB's same big, full, multi-instrument sound — minus Moore's blaring brass. Perhaps it's because I watched that emotional video just before listening to "Funny the Way It Is," but for whatever reason it struck me as a little dark, sad and somewhat plaintive. I'm not the biggest DMB fan but if this is a taste of their next album, I'm definitely interested. To get a free download of the song (requires just your email address) click here. To take a listen to it now,

Dave Matthews Band is so hot! I heard of its name many times recently. If you really love music and want to have a gig with some band, http://goodparty.co.uk/ will be your best choice to find one.

Dave Matthews Band is, by far, my favorite band. I've seen them live over 70 times... but never without LeRoi. This summer tour is going to be an emotional one for so many of us. RIP LeRoi. <3

Gotta say, I'm kind of excited about this!!! When Dave Matthews first got big back in 1994 or so, I instantly became a HUGE fan...I spent the end of my high school years and all of my college years being OBSESSED with them. I can't even tell you how many times I saw them in concert...it's too many to count. I don't know that I've ever loved a band like I loved them. But then, in 1999 or 2000, I started to fall out of love with them...I didn't care much for their latest CD at the time, and they were becoming so "trendy". I just stopped following their music and drifted away from them. But I think I might check this out, just for nostalgia's sake :)

I've always liked DMB too. I especially like their more melancholy songs like this one. Being from VA, it is pretty much a requirement that you like them. hehe :)

I watched that video before hearing the song too. The video, particularly the part where Boyd broke down, had me in tears. I've been a DMB fan for many, many years and this song has me optimistic for this album. C'mon June :).

I'm a dedicated DMB fan and I really love it. The energy was brilliant, and I absolutely cannot wait to hear it live. True, it was different without LeRoi - having lost my mother recently I've come to realize that things are never the same after you lose someone, but what you go through makes you stronger. It's clear they were all affected by the loss of their friend and brother and I think it has made their music stronger.

I love it! I love DMB and yes a lot of their songs sound the same but they are never the same live! You can see a DMB show every year 2 to 3 times a year (like my husband does)and the shows are always so full of energy! They are so entertaining and talented! They have a great tribute to LeRoi on their website!
