The Lorax Trailer: Dr. Seuss's Cautionary Tale Comes to Life

Chances are good that you're familiar with many of the stories of Dr. Seuss, and perhaps none of his children's books are as political as The Lorax. In the midst of Seuss's signature illustrations lies a message about environmentalism and protecting our planet (as The Lorax speaks for the trees.) The first trailer for the big screen version of the story certainly follows suit with the important lesson, though a few things have been changed around. In this version, a boy named Ted (voiced by Zac Efron) wants to impress a girl (Taylor Swift), so he sets out on an adventure to find a tree, which is nowhere to be found in Ted's world. He soon learns about the Lorax (Danny DeVito) — a small fuzzy creature doing his best to protect his paradise from the Once-ler (Ed Helms), who is trying to reap the resources of the environment.

The trailer for the film is certainly angled to pull on your heartstrings; in fact, it almost seems to be geared toward the adults that remember the story rather than the young target audience. With that said, I certainly fell for this preview: not only do those candy-colored trees make me feel nostalgic, but I'm looking forward to seeing how the themes of the film are handled 40 years after the book's initial release.
