A couple of actors with impressive track records are off to the tracks in HBO's new drama about horse racing, Luck. The network has revealed its first look at the series, and those seeking a feel-good show about the sport in the style of Seabiscuit should probably look elsewhere. The drama reveals the gritty underworld of gambling revolving around the sport, with Dustin Hoffman starring as Ace Bernestein, a man who is back on the streets after three years in prison.
I'm not into horse racing by any means, but I'm curious to see Academy Award winner Hoffman on the small screen — and to learn more details behind what is sure to be his sketchy backstory. Nick Nolte also stars, and HBO alum David Milch (Deadwood) wrote the pilot episode with Michael Mann directing. Luck is set to premiere in January, but you can get a better feel for the series when you watch the trailer.
