Are you ready to tear up at an inspirational story featuring Mad Men's Jon Hamm teaching Indian cricket players how to play baseball? In Million Dollar Arm, Hamm plays a sports agent desperate to find his next big client. He's kind of like Jerry Maguire, but instead of shepherding Cuba Gooding Jr. to fame, he heads to India and finds three cricket players with incredible pitching talents. This is a Disney movie, so on the way to the Major Leagues, they all become one big happy "alternative family" with Hamm's neighbor and love interest, played by Lake Bell.
This is based on the true story of J.B. Bernstein, an agent who created a sports-themed reality show in India and ended up finding a couple of candidates for the U.S. leagues. I love seeing Hamm out of Mad Men and leading a film, and I have no doubt I'm going to shed some tears here. Yes, it's contrived, but who cares? It's going to be heartwarming. Million Dollar Arm is due in theaters on May 16, and you can take a look at the trailer below.
