Movie Preview: The Hottest State

"I don't seem to have the first idea about how men are supposed to behave. There's something wrong with me. What do you think it is?" muses William Harding (Mark Webber), the young man experiencing what looks to be a kind of Gen-X suspended adolescence in The Hottest State. Based on his first novel, The Hottest State is Ethan Hawke's latest project which he adapted for screen, directed and also stars in. From the trailer it seems to have quite a dose of the angst and self-deprecating humor one might expect from Hawke.

William is an actor from Texas who journeys to New York City in search of a career. There, of course, he falls for a singer/songwriter and appears to then score with another woman after the singer crushes his heart. Maria Full of Grace's Catalina Sandino Moreno, Michelle Williams and Laura Linney also star. To check out the trailer before the movie opens August 24,

I read the book when I was in high school right when it came out and I remember thinking that he was a pretty terrible writer. That being said, I have no memory of the plot (and I read his second book, which, I agree with ccsugar, was better). So maybe there is hope for it yet. Hey, Michelle Williams looks pretty adorable.

I never read the book because it got such bad reviews, but the movie has a great cast, so I'll probably check it out.

I read this book about 4 years ago - I wasn't impressed. There is another book by him, can't remember the name, but that was better than The Hottest State.

I've been mad at Ethan Hawke for a while now, seeing has how he hurt the lovely Uma. It wasn't cool. That aside, maybe this movie will be worth watching. The store line is cute.
