Movie Preview: The Other Boleyn Girl

From the looks of this trailer, Eric Bana gets a whole lot of Boleyn booty playing King Henry VIII in The Other Boleyn Girl. The story looks gripping: two sisters Anne (Natalie Portman) and Mary (Scarlett Johansson) vie for the King's affection — and a place on the throne beside him. Though while I like both actresses well enough, they both seem to me like little kids playing dress up. That said, however, the costumes are gorgeous and I'm still looking forward to seeing this period piece when it opens February 29, 2008.

Did anyone see Natalie Portman in 'Closer'? Come on, if anyone can pull off cunning and manipulative in a roll, it's her.

Hello everyone, I am new around here and not so much into chatting (sorry.. too busy) but I wanted to tell you abt. 'The Other Boleyn Girl'. Two days ago I have seen this movie in a famous cinema in my city. This was on a special 'Ladies Night' organized by the cinema. This film is absolutely GREAT and a MUST SEE! You will be focused from beginning till the end and feel all kinds of emotions running through your body while watching. e.g. LOVE, PASSION, DESIRE, ANGER, HATE, ADMIRATION, ASTONISHMENT, SADNESS, PITY ETC. TO ME IT'S ABOUT GREED, LUST (FOR POWER), SACRIFICE, SUBMISSION, DEVOTION AND INSANITY. WHAT ELSE IS NEW IN THE WORLD WE LIVE IN TODAY? I THINK A LOT OF STRAIGHT MEN ARE LIKE SPOILT KIDS. THEY OFTEN LOOSE CONTROL OVER THEIR MINDS WHEN BEAUTIFUL WOMEN CATCH THEIR EYES ESP. IF THEY CAN'T HAVE THEM. I BELIEVE BEHIND A GREAT MAN IS OFTEN A GREAT WOMAN. FEMPOWERRRR RULEZZZZ... MY ADVICE: GO AND WATCH THIS MOVIE WHEN IT'S OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED. HAVE A GREAT DAY AND NICE WEEKEND! JISMBABE, 1/25/08

Well I LOVED the book, it's one of my top 3 favourites I've ever read. It doesn't look like the movie is really following the book's plotline very closely at all but that's OK. I've learned to look at movies differently from books and try to appreciate them in their own ways!

I had high hopes for this movie when I heard about it. I've read the book, and I don't think this movie will capture it at all. Scarlett cannot act, so I don't think that you'll root for her, like you do in the book. I also don't think Natalie can act well enough to pull off the bitchy, conniving, desperate thing she had going on in the book. George was my favorite character too. I wonder who's playing him?

Eric Bana is HOT!

I was so excited when I heard they were making this movie because the book is phenomenal. However... watching that preview made me a little upset because they don't seem to be going with the book or what truly happened. About Eric Bana being "too hot" to play Henry VIII... he wasn't always a fat old man. In his younger days, he was quite the catch. (As historians say anyway.) He was an athlete.

I'd see this cuz it's pretty.

I love the line; "She's my sister and therefore one half of me". So true. The bond that exists between sisters is so complex and difficult to explain to anyone who isn't one half of a sister combo.

Oh, I loved the book! It was such a great read. And I actually saw a poster for this movie about a week after I finished the book and I thought Natalie and Scarlett were pretty fitting. Definitely Natalie (how can you not love her?). But Scarlett, I think she'll do ok. I'm not her biggest fan, but she looks like she could embody Mary. I hope they don't mess up the time line too much, though. But on the whole, very very exciting!!

Sigh, people. Henry the VII was hot in his day, like really really really handsome and really fit. He was a total athlete. It just so happens that the images you all carry in your head are of Henry VIII past his prime, and that is when he got fat and gross. So it totally makes sense that they have a hot actor play him, because he was still young-ish to and handsome at this stage of his life. His several year long affair with Mary ended, and affair with Ann began, when he was in his mid 30's. The general picture we have in our head of Henry VIII is the Hans Holbein the younger painting of him which was painted in 1536, when he was 45. 1536 is also the year that Ann Boleyn was executed. Thus, the image you have in your head of how fat he was, is how fat he was at the time of Anne Boleyn's death, which is not at all what he looked like during his long affairs with both Boleyn sisters.

I heard the book is not that good...almost elementary that it's meant for high school kids....I heard this from an Anne Boleyn fanatic. Well, fanatic's not the right work but you know what I mean...

I don't think Keira would be good in this role AT ALL. Mary is supposed to be naive, and very light and feminine. Keira is WAY to bony and comes off as being very intellegent. I think Mary is manipulated by Anne and her family so much, and I think that the contrast between Mary and Anne will play much better with Scarlett and Natalie. Mary has to have the upper hand in the brains department.

I sort of pictured Keira Knightley as Mary too. I know there are differences in the actual events historically and the book, and it makes sense the movie adaptation would be different. I sort of buy Keira and Natalie as sisters.

I started reading the book earlier this year when I heard it was being made into a movie. The book was amazing, and the movie looks good too. I will be seeing it opening weekend! I like the actresses, I just wished they would have switched roles. I can see Natalie as Mary because she can play naive and sweet very well (I think). And I would have perferred to see Scarlett as Anne becasuse I see her playing the manipulative wench better. But by the look of the preview I think Natalie will be able to pull it off. I wonder who will be playing George? He was my favorite.

This looks AMAZING. I do like that it's almost as if Natalie and Scarlett have "switched roles." It makes it all the more interesting to watch. Thanks for the trailer Buzz!

for some reason it seems to me that natalie and scarlett should switch roles. natalie is too sweet and innocent to play anne, and scarlett is too much to play mary. switch them up.

Hmm... Perhaps I should have clarified for all the Boelyn experts on here who are so up in arms. I don't think these actresses can carry their roles. Maybe more specifically they seem like Scarlett Johannson and Natalie Portman playing dress up, as opposed to embodying the characters.

I really want to see this. And I have a huge crush on Eric Bana. Huge, seriously. It's out of control, ever since Munich.
