15 Retro Films to Watch If You Still Miss Mad Men

Mad Men ended in 2015, and although we've certainly been in mourning, the loss of it has only further fueled our desire for all things vintage. If you too have experienced a similar reaction, we've got a solution. Here is a list of great movies set in the '50s and '60s with that gorgeous Mad Men aesthetic to ease the burn of a Jon Hamm-less TV screen. Click through to check 'em all out!

An Education

An Education

Carey Mulligan and Peter Sarsgaard are both simply beautiful throughout their love affair in An Education. If you need an education of your own on all things gorgeous and Euro in the '60s, watch this flick ASAP.

Down With Love

Down With Love

It's NYC in the early 1960s, and a feminist author (Renée Zellweger) falls for a womanizing journalist (Ewan McGregor). This confection has got Mad Men's feel all over it — the fluffier side, anyway.

03
Catch Me If You Can

Catch Me If You Can

Before they were called flight attendants, the uniforms of these pretty stewardesses — plus Leonardo DiCaprio — made us swoon in Catch Me If You Can.

04
Hairspray
Everett Collection

Hairspray

In the season premiere of Mad Men, racial tensions are faced on Madison Avenue, and Hairspray tackles the serious issues of integration — but in a fun musical format that lightens the mood.

05
Pleasantville
Everett Collection

Pleasantville

Pleasantville touches on the loss of American innocence and the changing roles of women in the '50s, something I think Joan Harris would be able to relate to. Bonus: you get to check out a young Paul Walker in retro high school fashion.

06
Riding in Cars With Boys

Riding in Cars With Boys

Drew Barrymore's character is only 15 years old when she gets married to her baby daddy in this dramedy set in 1965. We're loving the oh-so vintage wedding garb and that excessively decorated chair. Where did that tradition go?

07
Far From Heaven
Everett Collection

Far From Heaven

Set in the 1950s, Far From Heaven tells the story of a Connecticut housewife (Julianne Moore) whose life starts to fall apart at the seams. With that hair and copy of Cosmo, she definitely looks like she could be friends with Betty.

08
Beyond the Sea

Beyond the Sea

Beyond the Sea follows the life of real-life crooner Bobby Darin and his wife Sandra Dee. Kevin Spacey and Kate Bosworth do an excellent job tackling their tumultuous, public relationship — set to a sweet soundtrack, no less. Plus, I can't help but be partial to that stylish yellow suit.

09
The Help

The Help

While the South had some different problems from NYC, the racial inequality in The Help parallels the changing landscape that Mad Men deals with.

10
That Thing You Do
Everett Collection

That Thing You Do

You can't help but think about The Wonders — and their hit singles — in That Thing You Do and smile. Not only does the film depict the golden age of TV and Ed Sullivan, but the soundtrack also has '60s pop down.

11
Across the Universe
Everett Collection

Across the Universe

Across the Universe takes on The Beatles and hippies, and it also depicts life before and after the Vietnam War. This dancing/bowling scene with the song "I've Just Seen a Face" is one of the highlights (along with cute Jim Sturgess).

12
Peggy Sue Got Married
Everett Collection

Peggy Sue Got Married

An oldie but a goodie, in Peggy Sue Got Married, Peggy Sue faints at her high school reunion and wakes up in her own past, just before graduating from high school in the early '60s. We don't blame her for finding it difficult to resist a young Nic Cage's pompadour. That's some serious hair.

13
A Single Man

A Single Man

Colin Firth and Julianne Moore are stunning in the costumes of A Single Man. This mod, amazing house screams Mad Men.

15
Brooklyn
Everett Collection

Brooklyn

This Oscar-nominated film showcases the incredibly talented Saoirse Ronan as Eilis, an Irish immigrant who finds herself in 1950s Brooklyn. Come for the frothy, pastel clothes, stay for the emotional love story.
