Movies That Put You to Sleep

What Movies Have Made You Fall Asleep in the Theater?

Just last week, one of my friends admitted that she fell asleep while seeing How Do You Know in the theater with her family. In the film's defense, they went to see it at 10:30 p.m. after a long day of holiday errand madness, so the movie itself isn't to blame (we're actually big fans of it here on Buzz). But it did get me thinking about the films that have caused me to doze off in the past.

Even though it hasn't happened in a long time, I can definitely recall shutting my eyes during a particularly late showing (in a particularly warm theater). And well, sometimes, a movie is just boring, am I right? I'm willing to bet most of us are guilty of snoozing in a theater at some point. So it's time to 'fess up: what's the last film that put you to sleep?

It warms my heart to see so many people openly express their love--or even like--of sleeping through movies. As a Sleepy Inducement expert and independent filmmaker, I have warned against Hollywood films for years because it's just plain unhealthy to sit numbly through all that excitement. I only make movies in the Film Sleepy genre, and they ALL put the audience to sleep. The Los Angeles Times called my first movie in the genre, WebcamMurder.com, "The most boring talky ever made," but I knew I could take the medium further into oblivion and followed up with Sublime Crime: A Subliminal Mystery--complete with a mostly blank screen, flashes of plot and the audience solving the mystery in their dreams. Kudos to Lauren for her courage in bringing up this rarely mentioned phenomenon, and kudos to the commenters, especially Fiery Red, popcorn19 and KarKarB24 for sleeping through movies "ALL THE TIME." Your immune system thanks you.

I definitely took a little nap during Hot Tub Machine...luckily it wasn't too hard to figure out what I'd missed.

I slept through Little Fockers on Christmas Eve. Could be that I was full and the theater was very warm, but three of the five people I went with slept through it too.

I fall asleep watching movies at home all the time. There are so many movies I've only seen half of. I only recall drifting off once in the theater during a Harry Potter movie a few years ago. It was late and it was a last minute invitation.

I sleep through most movies. DaVinci Code (after waiting for weeks for the midnight premiere,) King Kong (missed the Empire State Building scene), Memoirs of a Geisha, Pan's Labyrinth.. .it's all I did in the 2006-2008 time period. Probably why I don't go to the movies anymore...

I fell asleep while watching Star Wars episode 5 and 6. I was 15 years old back then and my boyfriend wanted to watch episodes 4, 5 and 6 one after the other, it was getting late, and I thought the movies were so boring! I could watch episode 4 but the 2 others were too much for me. I really am NOT a Star Wars fan lol!

I've fallen asleep during the Lord of the Rings movies before beacuse they are so long. I know they are great movies, but I just don't have the attention span for that stuff.

I saw an art film that shall not be named at 11:00 p.m. once. It was a great nap, though.

Pinocchio (the one w/ Benigni) (He's a terrific actor and the whole snoozing thing has nothing to do with him). I was jet lagged and honestly, I really don't like Pinocchio. So you could say that I was prepared to sleep through it the moment we sat down. There's another movie but I'm having a hard time recalling the title. I can't imagine falling asleep on a date! But I have to say, that makes for a terrific story after! Lol

Oh, Avatar too, that was a seriously long way to retell Pocahontas.

The last time I remember fully falling asleep was during Holes. I was asleep within five minutes of it starting. I think I was honestly just really tired. Blame it on teenage hormones, I think I was only fifteen when I saw it.

I fall asleep in the theater all. the. time. It has nothing to do with how exciting or boring the film is, it's just something about the dark room and knowing I have two hours to just sit back and relax . . . knocks me out almost every time. I always wake up and ask my boyfriend, what happened? Would I have liked it? :)
