Nat Faxon and Jim Rash Interview For The Way Way Back

The Way, Way Back Directors Say Steve Carell Gives an "Honest Portrayal of a Tragic Male Character"

Coming-of-age comedy The Way, Way Back is out this week, and I sat down with writers/directors Nat Faxon and Jim Rash (who previously wrote and won an Oscar for The Descendants) to talk about their film, which stars Liam James as a teen who finds his place at a water park when he's trying to escape his mother's cruel boyfriend, played by Steve Carell. Faxon and Rash talked about how it was fun to have Carell play against type, whether the comedians had a hard time getting serious on set, and whether they'll ever write a movie for themselves to star in.
