Number Crunching: This Week's TV Ratings

  • I predict a long life for this one. CBS's The Mentalist, about a faux-psychic who helps solve crimes, had a strong premiere on Tuesday with 15.6 million viewers.
  • Less heroic. Heroes had a rough outing in its season premiere, drawing 9.9 million viewers — which matches its lowest episode rating ever.
  • Ugly, grey Thursday. Ugly Betty struggled a little in its season premiere, while Grey's Anatomy soared to some of the best ratings of the week. Betty drew 9.8 million viewers, while Grey's got 18.3 million viewers.
  • Open for business. The Office returned to 9.2 million viewers — and, interestingly, it won its time slot among men 18-49.
  • Dancing away with the week. Dancing with the Stars dominated Monday with 21.1 million viewers, then brought in 18.2 million on Tuesday and 15.6 million on Wednesday.
  • Your moment of Zen. The Daily Show recently recorded its best week ever in the ratings. From Sept. 15-18, the show got just under 2 million viewers each night.

Yeah erin, I thought it had a Psyche-esque premise as well. But I don't watch Psyche (even though it's kinda cute), so it doesn't affect me much. Ultimately, I don't think The Mentalist can hold my attention, anyway. Yikes about Heroes. I guess that what happens when the viewers get screwed at all ends with whack-a-doodle programming changes.

I really enjoyed The Mentalist, even though the bad guy was a little obvious, and (I'm sorry Joshua!!!) it *may* be enough to pull me away from Fringe...we'll see how the next episode goes.

i'm actually not surprised that Greys did so well, now the true test will be to see if it is able to hold onto that audience for the season. i'm guessing no - but i kind of hope that it stays strong. i'm THRILLED to hear that the mentalist did so well - i love simon baker and i think that he could be great in this role. i didn't realize the whole point to the show and why he was what he was but you definitely get sucked in during the first episode.

I wish an early death to the Psych copying show.

The Mentalist was interesting, a little hard to follow at times, but that may be exactly what keeps me coming back.
