Number Crunching: This Week's TV Ratings

  • Lost in the shuffle? With American Idol expanded to two hours, Lost took a blow, pulling in just 9.8 million viewers — the lowest number ever for an original episode of the show.
  • Absolutely mental. The Mentalist is cementing its status as the season's breakout hit: Tuesday's episode pulled in 19.7 million viewers, its highest rated episode ever.
  • Big love for Big Love. HBO's recently renewed Big Love is making its mark on the ratings this season: Its most recent episode drew 1.9 million viewers, up significantly from this season's premiere.
  • Grammy moments. At a time when most award shows are losing ratings each year, the Grammys were actually up: The broadcast averaged 19.7 million viewers over its three and a half hours. That's about 2.5 million more people than last year's ceremony.
  • Crossing over. Private Practice got a huge boost from its crossover with Grey's Anatomy, jumping up to 14.2 million viewers.

Boo! off with American Idol's head!

I pine for the day that American Idol is finally canceled. I'm very proud to be able to say that I've never watched the show for more than a couple minutes. Personally, I think there's way better music out there than what is tediously featured week in and week out of the glorified Star Search. It's depressing to know that because so many young people are watching AI and eating up all the uninspired aural foolishness, the show is literally shaping decades of shi*ty music to come, with little hope for natural cultural music evolution. And there's way better TV to be watching as well. Lost, the greatest among them.

The Mentalist is doing amazing. And I find Simon Baker so attractive in the show, lol. Can't wait for the next episode! I'm glad PP is getting better ratings, even if it's due to Grey's but it's been so much better this season.

I think less people are watching LOST because the network left it off the air too long. Anyone who was watching casually has completely forgotten about it by now. I still watch but the endless hiatus has made me a lot less hooked.

I 100% agree, Renee3!!!!! It blows my mind that people would rather watch a stupid, staged show like Idol. Aren't they sick of it yet??? I sure as hell am!

I don't know Renee3...I can't understand it. But not only how can people NOT watch Lost...but how can you choose sacchrinated American Idol over something so original and awesome as Lost!

How can people not be watching Lost?? it's finally answering questions!!! Man I live for that show! It's one of the very few shows that I actually watch when it comes on and don't DVR it. I put up with commercials for Lost!
