One Day Trailer

One Day Trailer: Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess's Slice of Life and Love

I've been patiently waiting for a glimpse of the movie adaptation of One Day ever since I read the last page of David Nicholls's novel last year. The story chronicles the friendship of Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Dexter (Jim Sturgess) over 20 years by visiting where they are in their lives on the same day each year. Though we're only privy to a cross section, it's enough to see how the relationship between them changes as they experience the realistic twists and turns of growing up.

I was always behind the casting of Sturgess as cocky, charming Dex, but I was a little more concerned about Hathaway as quiet, brainy Emma (mostly because she's American) — and as the trailer proves, her accent is a bit distracting. I'm also a bit disappointed that the preview gives away a lot of the novel's plot, complete with a more sappy veneer. Still, the film has potential, and maybe it's best not to judge it by this preview. Have a look for yourself when you

Late to the party on this one, but I just read the book last weekend. I thought it was moving and well-written, and a lot more somber than the lark it seems to be based on its cover. I am disappointed that this trailer gives away the whole plot, and as much as I like Anne Hathaway — and I really do — her accent is a bit off, guv. Definitely looking forward to seeing how it all comes together.

@Shannon, I'm worried you might be right. Such a good book, but so not convinced the movie will live up to it based on this trailer :(

Aaaah! I've been waiting so long for this. I'm a bit scared this is going to be another Time Traveler's Wife situation, but I'll reserve my judgment until I see the whole movie. Still LOVE Sturgess, though.
