All the Ridiculous Things That Make Pitch Perfect 2 Irresistible

Pitch Perfect 2 crushed the box office this weekend, and we wouldn't be surprised if some people saw the movie more than once. The original film was a surprise hit, but we already knew this one would be good, thanks to the trailers and pictures. This time around, there's more music, new characters, and tons of perfect Fat Amy moments. Here are six things that we loved about the sequel.

01
"Flashlight"
Universal Pictures

"Flashlight"

Among the many songs from Pitch Perfect 2, the highlight of the soundtrack has to be the original tune, "Flashlight." It was written by Sia and Sam Smith and sung by Jessie J, but in the movie, it's a song that Emily (Hailee Steinfeld) comes up with and workshops throughout the movie. It's sung in various forms, and we loved every second of it — from Emily's stripped-down version to the way it's incorporated into the Bellas' final performance.

02
Amy and Bumper's Relationship
Universal Pictures

Amy and Bumper's Relationship

Jesse (Skylar Astin) barely appears with Beca (Anna Kendrick) in Pitch Perfect 2, but we still get a solid romance from Amy (Rebel Wilson) and Bumper (Adam DeVine)! Frankly, because both of them are so funny, their relationship is much more entertaining anyway. Fat Amy is a serial scene-stealer, and putting her and Bumper together means twice the laughs. It's also nice to see that two characters who were initially purely existing for comic relief have been humanized. That scene where Fat Amy turns Bumper down on the lake? So. Sad.

03
The "Cups" Reprise

The "Cups" Reprise

"Cups" was the breakout hit from Pitch Perfect, and it's fitting that the sequel incorporates a throwback to the song during the campfire sequence. It takes on a completely different meaning now that the girls are about to graduate, and it's a gorgeously sung version. We may have teared up a bit.

04
Ester Dean as Cynthia-Rose
Universal Pictures

Ester Dean as Cynthia-Rose

We're kind of obsessed with Ester Dean, and not just because of her song "Crazy Youngsters." Her character, Cynthia-Rose, gets so many funny lines this time around, and even when she's not speaking, her facial expressions are worth a thousand words.

05
That Bizarre Riff-Off Hosted by David Cross
Universal Pictures

That Bizarre Riff-Off Hosted by David Cross

We got a peek at this riff-off in an early clip, but seeing it unfold in its entirety was amazing. Everything about it is ridiculous: David Cross as a mysterious a cappella enthusiast, categories about butts, and the cameo from the Green Bay Packers. Shout-out to fellow cameo-maker Keegan-Michael Key. Both of these funny guys made the most of their short time on screen, and they're just as memorable as the rest of the cast.

06
Das Sound Machine
Universal Pictures

Das Sound Machine

Um, how hilarious is Das Sound Machine? First of all, their performances are meticulously crafted and equal amounts of impressive and terrifying. Pieter (Flula Borg) and Kommissar (Birgitte Hjort Sorensen) are so intense on stage, but they're even intense when they're just talking with the Bellas. Every confrontation is fierce and biting, and the way Beca handles her feelings for Kommissar is both confusing and hilarious.
