Reese Witherspoon to Star in Peggy Lee Biopic 2010-08-10 10:30:31

Reese Witherspoon to Channel Peggy Lee

Reese Witherspoon scored her first Oscar playing June Carter Cash in Walk the Line, and now she's taking on another iconic singer. Witherspoon is putting together a biopic of Peggy Lee, a jazz/pop singer who rose to fame in the 1940s. Witherspoon will also produce the film, and she's got Nora Ephron on board to write and direct.

Ephron may be better known for romantic comedies like You've Got Mail, but she's fresh off making Julie & Julia, which gives me hope that she can get a performance from Witherspoon that rivals Meryl Streep's. What say you — can Witherspoon pull off yet another famous songbird?

Who wouldn't want to play Peggy Lee? Her cover of "Fever" is one of my favorite songs...

Reese could do it, but I'm not sure why she would.
