Review and Recap of Grey's Anatomy Episode "Give Peace a Chance" 2009-10-30 08:30:41

Grey's Anatomy Rundown, "Give Peace a Chance"

Derek Shepherd has been on the periphery of Seattle Grace for the first few episodes of this season of Grey's Anatomy, but this week he's back — and in a big way. As Derek tries yet again to work his magic on a seemingly inoperable tumor, he also provokes a long-coming showdown with the Chief. As for the other doctors, Cristina's still frustrated about her lack of surgeries, and Alex still can't get through to Izzie.

For even more Grey's fun, the Grey's Anatomy McAddicts Group in the Buzz Community just might be perfect for you. Ready to get into it? Just

.

  • Derek is faced with a conundrum when he finds out that a fellow doctor at Seattle Grace not only wants Derek to remove his inoperable tumor, but that he came to the hospital just for Derek. I kind of thought Derek would have a little more trouble finding his confidence (remember when he went on that bender to the woods last year?), but he wastes no time scheduling the surgery behind the Chief's back.
  • Speaking of confidence, Cristina's true colors are beginning to show through her cocky exterior. She pretty much declares herself the winner of Derek's challenge, only to fail miserably in front of her colleagues. There's still tension between her and Owen (can't wait to see what happens when Kim Raver is added to this mix. By the end of the episode, Owen is making things right again and helping Cristina with her surgical skills.
  • Lexie's emotional relapse from last week seems to be behind her now, and she quickly steps up to the plate when she's selected for Derek's surgery. At first she's still a shrinking violet when Avery makes fun of her diaper (how hilarious/ridiculous were the shots of her waddling down the hall), but she has the last laugh when Avery's hand cramps up due to dehydration. I also loved that she came into her own, barking orders at Shepherd and helping him through.
  • Derek and the Chief aren't the only rivals at the hospital: Alex and newbie Reid are giving them a run for their money. The sexual tension between them is becoming abundantly clear (at least to me), as Reid gives Alex lectures when he avoids seeing Izzie. In the end, Izzie skips her cancer treatment and Alex is in tears yet again this season. Reid is the only one there to comfort him — seriously, how long before they end up in the sack?
  • Derek has one lapse in confidence when operating on Isaac, but after one long night with Meredith he solves the problem (of course). Am I the only one who wasn't on the edge of my seat about his "eeny meeny miney mo" game at the end? It just seems so obvious that Isaac is going to make it.
  • On the other hand, I was a bit shocked when the Chief fires Derek at the end, even though Derek barely bats an eyelash and passes on Isaac's words of wisdom to "sleep on it" and see what happens tomorrow. I'm also kinda loving Mere and Der's married life — so much nicer without all of their drama.

What'd you think of this week's episode? Is Derek really fired? Do you wish there was a little more Bailey ('cause I do)?

the chief is annoying me. i hope alex/reid do NOT hook up. i hate her so much! and i still am unclear on what exactly is going is on katherine heigl and the show... so i was a bit miffed she didn't show up for her dr. appt. definitely refreshing to see no drama between mer/der. and i hope cristina gets out of her funk too, i'm scared this is a foreshadowing of her leaving the show?

This episode was fantastic. And there is NO way they really fired Derek. He was in the previews for next week in his scrubs!! I'm hoping that means he's still around!!!

Loved this episode! And there wasn't a lot of Dr. Bailey because she was behind the camera in this episode, she directed it!

I loved this episode!! Lexie's "hardcore" diaper was hilarious--including the shots of her and Christina walking down the hall side by side wearing them. I thought for sure that Lexie was gonna catheterize herself, but I'm glad she went the diaper route--its less intense, but funnier. And the speech Christina gave her applauding her diaper decision was also funny. I'm glad Lexie was there to swoop in for Avery when his hand cramped up. Serves him right since he called her Derek's "surgery b*tch". I don't think I would have the patience that Isaac had. After 8 hours of a action-less surgery performed on him, he just told told Derek to sleep and it, and that he could try it again the following day. I don't think I would be as calm or optimistic. I've kind of disliked Owen up to now, but he's starting to grow on me. It was too funny when he realized Christina was wearing a diaper as well. I though it was sweet of him to give her advice on the dollar bill/microscope challenge, and with his help she was able to do it right (even though it was too late). All the MerDer scenes were cute, and I agree with Buzz, I love their drama-less marriage. Its a refreshing change of pace for them.

I loved this episode.Although I also saw the Reid/Alex thing as a setup for a possible pairing later on. . . I'm not completely disgusted by it. I dont see how it could be any worse than the awkwardly forced and uncomfortable George/Izzie love affair. I wish Izzie/KH would go away forever. After the 2nd season, she became my least favorite character. She is so annoying.

Great episode. Loved Lexi's "Drink it!" and when Derek conceded to playing tic, tac, toe..."yeahhhhhh" lol I HATE Izzie for making Alex so sad, but I love how he is mean to the Mercy people, and agreed CG, TERRIBLE pairing if that's where they want to go with this Reid thing. First episode where I liked Arizona, I saw her as cute and not a annoying and preachy.

Thought it was a great episode-the best of the season so far for me. I loved Lexie's assertiveness (Drink it) and the diaper, hahaha. And I really believe they need to get a cardio-god for Christina soon or else she will go insane. I bet Kim is probably the new cardio surgeon; it will cause a conflict of interest because Christina will want to learn so badly, but at the same time she'll see the connections between Kim's character and Owen. I felt terrible when she lost out on the surgery, though her cockiness leading up to it was kind of annoying lol. Loved the Mer-Der relationship last night!! And the fact that the Chief fired Derek was kind of surprising, but not at the same time. I mean, Derek did do the surgery when the Chief specifically told him not to, and if it were anyone else, especially if they had failed, they would have been let go. Still, I love how Derek was so calm and said "sleep on it" lol.

It was nice to see Owen help Christina out at the end.So tired of the Chief's power plays, etc. he's just instant anger now. I'm fine with less Bailey, she's made less of an impact on me since the 4th or 5th season. Diapers = hardcore. Awesome.

i REALLY liked this episode. finally....shepherd is back in full force. i think they are setting it up for him to become chief still, esp after that surgery. arizona had it right...the chief has become a bully. i liked the Mer/Der scene..it was cute how she helps him figure it out. i like lexie more and more lately. the diaper was hilarious also when she yelled @ derrick. i can't stand this whiny, unconfident christina..its just so out of character for her. i'm looking forward to the kim raver addition. is she the new cardio doc?? i love sensitive alex and i like the alex/izzie story, but i'm ready for him to snap out of it and become a bad-ass once again.

There is no way that Derek could be fired. I think the Chief will reach a breaking point and maybe breakdown and open up to Derek or as you said Caterpillergirl step down.

I wish they would hurry up and get a cardio doc in there for Christina. I'm tired of seeing her flounder week after week.

I both loved and disliked this episode. I loved that Izzie was gone again, so much better without her mouth breathing angst. Alex and Reid? I do not like that pairing at all!I dont think Derek is fired, I think that the chief will quit, or step down, he is a big bully now and has lost his edge. Lexie saying "DRINK IT" was hilarious, and the wearing of the adult diapers was awesome.....
