Here's a gang I wouldn't mind being a part of. Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, and Josh Brolin are in talks to join Gangster Squad, a police drama set in 1940s Los Angeles. Penn would star as gangster Mickey Cohen, a real-life figure who was part of the Jewish Mafia. Gosling and Brolin would play the two police officers who are assigned to take him down when the violence he causes gets out of hand.
The movie sounds like it has a lot of parallels to L.A. Confidential, but I have no problem with that, if Gangster Squad can manage to be as great as that film. These three actors have the chops for a gritty crime saga . . . and it sounds just like the kind of project that Oscar voters love too.
