Teen Wolf's Ryan Kelley Dishes on Deputy Parrish, His Castmates, and More

MTV

Seriously, though, what is Parrish? We talked to Teen Wolf's Ryan Kelley about the question fans can't stop buzzing about, and he shared details on his character, Deputy Jordan Parrish, revealing what to expect this season. Ryan also played along with a game of superlatives, sharing which of his castmates is the class clown, who has the best laugh, and who's most like their character. As he continues to win over fans, find out why Ryan Kelley should be on your radar, and keep reading for all the fun facts and behind-the-scenes scoop Ryan shared.

POPSUGAR: When did you find out what Parrish is?

Ryan Kelley: I know what I am. I'd been asking Jeff [Davis] for a while — all of season four, I'd been bugging him, and he wouldn't tell me. Then at the end of season four, he started being like, "You want to know?" And I was kind of like, now I don't want to know because I get asked all the time and I don't want to have to lie. I used to be able to be like, "That's a cool theory, maybe that makes sense, but I don't think so because of this." Now I can't do that. Now I can just smile and be like, "I don't know, just hang in there . . . "

PS: What can fans expect this season?

RK: This is really Parrish's coming-out season, because you find out what he is, and you find out more of his role in Beacon Hills.

PS: Is it fun theorizing with all the fans?

RK: It was when I didn't know. Some of them, they definitely know more stuff than me. They'll say a fact, and I'll be like, "That happened?" And they're like, "In episode blah blah blah, it happened." And I'm like, "Oh OK, yeah, well I guess that makes sense then."

PS: If you could pick a creature to be, which one would you pick?

RK: Of the creatures that are on the show right now, if I could pick a creature . . . good question. [Laughs.] I mean, I'd have to be an alpha werewolf, you know, just to be a boss. Number one.

PS: Do you think Parrish is working for or against the wolf pack?

RK: I actually don't know that. I have an idea. I think personally he's good, but he might have a dark side. I definitely . . . I think he's good. I think because he doesn't know what he is and he doesn't know what creature he is, that could play into whether he's good or bad, or if he can control his powers or he can't.

PS: Switching gears a bit, who would you want to see Parrish paired up with romantically?

RK: Lydia [Holland Roden] and I have a relationship going on right now, and right now it's friendship. There has been some sort of dream sequences where Parrish has hallucinated some things, so they're giving hints that it might be something romantic, but it's really just a flirtatious friendship. I like it and I hate it, because I understand the "Stydia" thing — the whole Stiles and Lydia fandom. They're die-hard. It's Stydia for life, and if you get in the way, they'll send you death threats. Stiles is with Malia right now, too, and that has its own fandom as well. So as long as Parrish is just in the mix of things, I don't really care.

PS: This is such a fun cast. What's it like behind the scenes?

RK: It sounds so cliché for actors to be like, "This set is so fun. It's amazing. It's like a family." But really, Teen Wolf is. It's such an ensemble, and in between scenes, everyone's just on set goofing off. Dylan [O'Brien] and Tyler [Posey], they're just goofballs, and they constantly make you laugh. Tyler just drives around set with a skateboard or, you know, on his motorcycle, and just goofs off. Dylan's cracking jokes left and right. It's a truly fun set.

PS: So you know those high school superlatives? I'm going to throw some out, and you can name a cast member who fits.

RK: OK, yeah.

PS: Class clown?

RK: That's a hard one. I'm gonna go with O'Brien.

PS: Biggest flirt?

RK: Posey. Tyler Posey, for sure.

PS: Best hair?

RK: I like Holland's.

PS: Best laugh?

RK: It's hard to get him to laugh because he smiles, but he doesn't laugh as much — Dylan Sprayberry. Once you get him to laugh, it's pretty funny.

PS: Most like their character?

RK: Ooh, I'd say Stilinski [Linden Ashby] because he's like a father figure to everyone.

PS: Who can't keep a straight face?

RK: Any scene you're in with Tyler or Dylan, anyone who's opposite of them breaks. You can't help it. They just do things that make you scratch your head and laugh, and you're trying to be in character and they just . . . yeah. It's hard to keep a straight face.

PS: Most likely to date a fan?

RK: [Laughs.] That's a good question. I don't know.

PS: And what about your love life? Are you single?

RK: No, I'm dating someone right now.

PS: So what's your favorite way to spend a day off?

RK: A perfect day off would be sleeping in, number one, then either going for a hike or going to the beach. Lunch in Santa Monica, right on the beach.

PS: About the gym — are you guys just . . . always working out?

RK: We just cry together, and they beat us. [Laughs.] Our studio has a full-on, everything-you-can-think-of gym in the middle of our sets. It's awesome. I don't do it between scenes because you're obviously going to get sweaty and ruin your makeup, but on days where you do 16-hour days and you still need to make it to the gym, it's awesome. Having a gym on set, you can be like, OK, I'm going to do a half-ass workout, and it's better than nothing.

PS: So you're all doing it together?

RK: We don't really work out together. Our schedules are all intertwined, so it's whenever we can. Fitness is — you know, it's Teen Wolf. It's shirtless boys. It's definitely encouraged to stay in shape. It's just part of the job. And you see the other castmates, and you're like, damn, I need to catch up, so just by looking at each other, we kind of push ourselves.

PS: You've posted the cutest pictures of your nieces and nephews. How many do you have?

RK: Four. I have two nieces and two nephews, and more on the way. I'm sure even more than I know of. Every time I talk to my mom, she's like, "Guess who else is pregnant again?" Having 14 siblings, this is the time, and my older siblings are just popping babies out.

PS: Are you excited for them to see the stuff you've been in someday?

RK: Yeah, and I still have younger siblings who are in high school, and they love the show. It's fun when I either live tweet or watch the show, I get texts from my younger siblings asking questions. It's neat. It's cool that they're able to watch the show.

PS: Do they have friends who fangirl over you?

RK: Yeah. [Laughs.] My youngest sisters, the youngest two are in middle school, and every time I come home, they have a pack of Teen Wolf pictures printed off that they want me to sign, and they're so bad. I'm like, "I don't want to sign these. Why don't we go print real pictures off, good ones?" And they're like, "No, these are fine." And I'll sign, like, 50 of them. They might sell them on eBay, I don't know.

PS: Have you had any crazy fan encounters?

RK: Yeah, Teen Wolf is on a whole different level . . . I've done some crazy stuff, like Ben 10: Alien Swarm, when I'd put on the jacket, I'd just blow little kids' minds. It was fun. Their make-believe world was real for that moment.

PS: Aww.

RK: Yeah, but on Teen Wolf, I'm not on that level, but Dylan O'Brien will literally have girls just collapse or faint, and that's pretty intense to see. They're so excited to see him that they literally just faint. Him and Posey get pretty crazy fans, and Holland, and Tyler Hoechlin, same thing. I was at a bar with him in Amsterdam, and this young girl, 20s, I saw her — she was just casually standing at the bar, and she did a double take for Hoechlin, and on the second double take, she just couldn't even function. It's endearing.
