8 Shows That Will Fill the Walking Dead-Shaped Hole in Your Heart

Summer isn't an easy time for diehard TV fans. Sure, the weather is great and you have time to catch up on your reality shows, but so many shows are off the air! The Walking Dead is irreplaceable, but there are a handful of similar shows that might help with the void left after that insane season finale. After all, we won't find out who Negan kills until the October premiere! Take a look through the shows we recommend, and if you've seen all these, check out our broader roundup of all the great horror shows on TV right now.

01
Preacher
AMC

Preacher

If you're the type of Walking Dead fan who loves to read the comic then watch the show, I would be surprised if you're not already watching Preacher, too. The show, which follows a small-town preacher who is possessed by an angel-demon hybrid, is also based on a popular comic series. Preacher is midway through its first season and it's already been renewed for season two, so it's here to stay.

02
Fear the Walking Dead
AMC

Fear the Walking Dead

Of course, there's always the Walking Dead spinoff, which is currently in the middle of season two and on hiatus. It'll be back on Aug. 21, so you have plenty of time to catch up!

03
iZombie
The CW

iZombie

For those who love zombies but are craving something a little more lighthearted than The Walking Dead, there's iZombie. Rose McIver stars as a medical resident who also happens to be undead in The CW's series, which is coming back for season three this Fall.

04
Z Nation
Syfy

Z Nation

You might want to consider trekking into deep cable for Syfy's gnarly zombie apocalypse series Z Nation. It's a comedy, but it's just as much of a gore fest as The Walking Dead. Two seasons are out, and we don't yet have a premiere date for a third.

05
The 100
The CW

The 100

Gritty and realistic, The 100 doesn't have zombies, but it does take place in a postapocalyptic world. The CW's show is a bit under the radar, but it has a dedicated fan base and critics love it. Watch the first three seasons before it returns this Fall!

06
Outcast
Everett Collection

Outcast

As many fans are aware, Robert Kirkman is the writer behind the Walking Dead comic series, but he also wrote a series called Outcast. It's been adapted into a show on Cinemax, and the first season is terrifying.

07
The Strain
FX

The Strain

There might not be a grosser show on TV than FX's The Strain. The horror series takes gore to the extreme, so if you're all about the rotting zombies on The Walking Dead, you'll revel in some of the imagery here. Season three starts up at the end of August!

08
American Horror Story
Everett Collection

American Horror Story

I assume there's a large cross section of people who love both The Walking Dead and American Horror Story (myself included), but if you're not already obsessed with FX's anthology series, it's time to start watching. In particular, the third season, Coven, features a zombie who is very different than the ones we see on TWD. What I'm saying is that he's hot and not totally decaying. Season six starts up this Fall, and we still don't know what the theme is.
