The Social Network Trailer Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake, and Andrew Garfield 2010-07-15 11:20:21

The Social Network Trailer: Mark Zuckerberg Gets De-Friended

The Social Network, David Fincher's dramatization of the rise of Facebook, has spawned a couple of teaser trailers, but today we finally get to see footage — and it looks pretty great. I'm most encouraged by the acting on the part of Jesse Eisenberg as founder Mark Zuckerberg, as well as newcomer Andrew Garfield (aka the new Spider-Man) as cofounder Eduardo Saverin.

This preview gives more insight into Zuckerberg's portrayal as a villain — the book that the movie is based on implies that his whole concept of Facebook was simply a tool to get him more friends and respect, and not just the virtual kind. Now that I've seen more, I'm very excited for this movie; it might be all the supporting players (including Rashida Jones and Justin Timberlake), but some of the credit definitely goes to the brilliant usage of the cover of Radiohead's "Creep."

It is crazy how dramatic and intense the rise of facebook has become. I still remember when it was only for college students. Now anyone with an email account and no shame can join.

Whether it was approved by Facebook or not, or whether or not this is "how it actually happened".....Zuckerberg is totally getting the last laugh. If he honestly did it to boost popularity and friends....holy hell, did he ever win and then some. The boy has a net worth of 4 BILLION dollars at 26 years old. I don't think he gives a damn who thinks he's creepy or portrays him as a villain. He is our generations Bill Gates for all intents and purposes. Whether people like him or not, they have to respect the fact that he created one of the most important websites, marketing tools, and communication tools in the history of the internet. Hell, someday it may be THE most important. I want to see the movie, to some extent, because I'm curious how they are going to handle a modern phenomena in an effective way. But I think portraying Zuckerberg as a villain is kind of paranoid. But, hey, we'll see!

Not at all, soupycracker — it might be my favorite part of the trailer (that and the "MAAAAARK" bellow from Andrew Garfield).

I forgot I wanted to comment on how Facebook must feel about this - while I understand why they would not like this; I really doubt that it would have any effect on people's use of the site. I, for one, do not plan to stop using Facebook...

I don't care if it's not accurate or melodramatic, this looks exciting, well-written, eerie - I wasn't sure what the deal was (I knew nothing about the book) but now that I see this trailer I am so excited to see the movie...
