Song of the Day: Smashing Pumpkins, "Landslide"

You know Stevie Nicks wrote a damn fine song if both The Dixie Chicks and Billy Corgan can sound great singing it. Not surprisingly, I'm loving this cover of "Landslide" recorded by The Smashing Pumpkins for the 1994 album Pisces Iscariot.

This bittersweet acoustic version is a great showcase for Corgan's fragile vocals and a welcome foil to the more metallic sound on the Pumpkins' new album, Zeitgeist, which hits stores today. On past releases, I really enjoyed the way Corgan (performing at Live Earth, at left) balanced harder rock tunes with ballads, and I wish Zeitgeist had a bit more of the latter.
