Summit Entertainment to Develop a New Movie About Dracula Called Vlad 2009-12-07 10:30:03

Summit Takes on a New Vampire Tale With Brad Pitt's Help

Move over, Edward Cullen — Summit is bringing back the original badass bloodsucker of the silver screen. The production company that put the Twilight Saga on the map is developing a new film called Vlad, chronicling the life of Dracula in his younger years as a prince.

Brad Pitt is already on board to produce via Plan B Entertainment and Anthony Mandler is in talks to direct. Mandler has directed music videos for the likes of Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, John Mayer, and Jay-Z. Just don't expect to see another teen romance: the vision for this project is more "action-oriented" (which I can only assume means it'll be scarier).

I don't need to remind you all that vampires are so hot right now, but are you on board with a Dracula throwback or are you ready to move on to something new (like werewolves, perhaps?)

I'm interested if Charlie H wrote the script but I don't really like Brad...not sure if I ever did. I feel like he is jumping on a bandwagon here. Maybe that the downside of having vampires be "in" now. I also read that he opted the rights to "The Time Traveler's Wife", without/before even reading the book solely because he thought it would be a good vehicle for him and his then wife Jennifer Aniston to star in. I think as a producer he just jumps or cherry picks projects on some whim and I feel like he is just a tabloid guy. He was always "eye candy" for those who are into him but he isn't too appealing now because he seems to want to change his image as something else and it isn't working. Lastly, I agree his beard is nasty! Ick. If the trailer and reviews for this are good, fine. But until then I'll have to pass based on this.

No vampires but it's based on Vlad, #7? That's fine with me too.

I, too, am distracted by Brad. And not in a good way. He went from "Sexy Brad" to "Old Dad (with the Crazy Beard) Brad." Gross.

More importantly, what in the world happened to him? He has aged like 10 years in the last year...
