True Blood Casts Joe Manganiello as Major Werewolf Character Alcide Herveaux 2009-12-16 12:30:55

Meet True Blood's New Werewolf, Alcide Herveaux

Casting news is coming in fast and furiously for True Blood's third season! Just yesterday, Alfre Woodard and James Frain joined the show as Lafayette's mother and Tara's love interest, Prison Break alums earned the roles of Sam's brother and Bill's first wife, and Sam's mom was added. But most of us were excited about the recent news that a werewolf and another vampire were cast.

Until now: the role of Alicide Herveaux, the werewolf that figures prominently in Charlaine Harris' books, has been filled by Joe Manganiello. He should be vaguely recognizable to One Tree Hill watchers (he played Owen the bartender) and How I Met Your Mother fans (he was one of Marshall's law school buddies).

This news only makes Summer 2010 and the third season premiere seem so far away! Still, I can't wait to see how these new characters figure into the show's landscape. What do you think of the new Alcide?
