Are you ready for eight installments of pure, uninterrupted Matthew McConaughey/Woody Harrelson crime-solving action? The two real-life buds are headed to HBO for True Detective, and the first trailer offers a haunting look at the series. The actors play Rust Cole and Martin Hart, investigators whose lives are changed forever when they encounter a set of serial killings in Louisiana. The show follows them throughout the 17-year hunt for the murderer, which means we get young, clean-cut McConaughey all the way to older, scroungy, ponytail-wearing McConaughey. There's even a very intense Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire) thrown in!
Between The Killing and Top of the Lake, I'm a little maxed out on dark, depressing murder shows, but this looks worth a watch. If it's good enough to bring McConaughey and Harrelson to TV, it's good enough for me. Oh, and in case you're wondering (I was), the fantastic accompanying music is "Whispering" by Alex Clare. The series will premiere in January 2014, but definitely watch the trailer after the jump.
