Video of the Opening Sequence For Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing

Spike Lee + Public Enemy + Rosie Perez = One of the Coldest Film Intros of All Time

The following excerpt was written by Elbeethrie, who posted it on the OnSugar blog Elbeethrie.com Art and Design.

Spike Lee is one my BIGGEST cinematic influences. I often talk about why he is so great, but sometimes, it is just best to show you. I present the opening sequence to Do the Right Thing...A Spike Lee Joint. What's so special about this? Well, besides an ever-so-sexy Rosie Perez in her major motion picture debut, the intro encapsulates the mood of the story and sets the tone for what's to come. "Fight the Power" by Public Enemy was a leap motif throughout the film, but also one of the songs that scored the 90's. It represented conscious rebellion and social uprising against the proverbial "MAN". When you hear the song, it inclines the listener to scream "WE AREN'T GOING TO TAKE THIS SH%T ANYMORE!". As an editor I know that sometimes there is a "perfect song" for a sequence, and this was definitely it.
