Watch Neil Patrick Harris on 2010 Oscar Opening Video Song and Dance 2010-03-07 22:28:02

Oscars Opening Number: Who Owned It?

Now that the Oscars have wrapped, let's go back to the beginning and one of the show's best kept secrets: Neil Patrick Harris! The funnyman showed up for an elaborate, Busby Berkeley-style song and dance number to introduce hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. Martin and Baldwin then descended the stage, making jokes about the nominees, as is custom. The George Clooney/Baldwin stare-down was pretty fantastic, but I'm not sure that their combined power topped that of their opening act, NPH. Watch the clip of Harris's number below if you missed it, and then tell me which part of the opening you liked more!

NPH--I've seen him do better. He seemed so out of breath! And the song was pretty sucky. But the dynamic duo of Alec and Steve just didn't do it for me. "Oh look! There's_____" did go on for too long and I didn't find it that funny. I kept waiting for something fresh to be thrown in there but it was just them standing on stage and pointing at the audience. I shut off the Oscars after fifteen minutes out of boredom.

I also really liked Steve and Alec. "Meryl Streep has more nominations than any other actress, or as I'd like to think of it, more losses." They were actually funny.

i actually really like steve and alec. i thought they played off each other nicely and it was way more entertaining than just one host up there.

Agreed about NPH, I think its just how many award show song and dances can he do? It's old and boring now---I actually fast forwarded. I laughed at a lot of Alec and Steve. My fave was how much Meryl was laughing at herself. It was a little too long, but still better then the song and dance that has been done by NPH multiple times recently.

I also thought NPH was overrated, I also thought Martin and Baldwin's "Oh, look there's ____" went on for too long, but overall, I loved them. Thought they worked really well together.

It went from light and airy - That's Entertainment/Hollywood musical style into a list of all the actors & actresses in the room and bad jokes poked at them - usually poking fun and odd humor remarks. For me, it felt forced and almost got to a point when I wondered how many more names they were going to name (Martin & Baldwin). I think they should cut all the lame jokes and let the award winners that have multiple people have more time. It sucks that only one person really gets to speak when the music takes the rest of the people's remarks out! I would much rather let that person have their moment than have all the silly host banter. I suppose that's also because I only liked the pre-taped skits of the 2 comedians. However, I LOVED NPH and feel really disappointed in the "routine" of the host duo!
