What Was the First Cassette Tape You Ever Owned?

Buzz In: What Was the First Cassette Tape You Ever Owned?

Well this news makes me feel old: Sony has officially discontinued the Walkman. To be fair, I didn't even realize that Sony was still making them (when was the last time you spotted a cassette player in Best Buy?), but I'm feeling a bit nostalgic for the beloved gadget of my youth.

Now I'm busy reminiscing about the first tapes from my collection. I'm not talking about mix tapes (though those were also great), but the singles or compilations from the "hot" artists at the time. I fondly recall constantly rewinding Debbie Gibson's "Only in my Dreams," and my Mariah Carey tapes got a lot of play as well. After you take a few moments of silence for the Walkman, tell me: what were the first cassette tapes in your collection?

Listen. I'm going to get real right now and fully cop to the fact that the first tape i ever bought with my own money was To the Extreme by the one and only Vanilla Ice. Whew. i feel better having gotten that off my chest.

My first tape was Culture Club Colour By Numbers. I was only 4 so I'm pretty sure I didn't buy it, but it was the first tape that was definitely mine. I was a huge Boy George fan.

Spin Doctors' "Pocket Full of Kryptonite." I was all of nine years old. I'm not ashamed, though, I've been known to rock out to some SD when I catch it on Pandora. ;)

My memory isn't that great but I think I had a New Kids on the Block cassette and a Paula Abdul tape.

I remember the Christmas my sister and I both got our own cassette players! She got Debbie Gibson's cassette and I got Tiffany's! Man I can't believe they still make them! I guess that means they still make the disc man then too...
