Game of Thrones: Joe Naufahu Talks About the "Fireworks" Between Khal Moro and Daenerys

There's a new Khal in town, and his braid might be even longer than Khal Drogo's. During the season premiere of Game of Thrones, we're introduced to Khal Moro, one of several characters who have appeared in the books but are new to the show this season. Our first impression isn't great; he is the Khal of a Dothraki tribe that captures Daenerys and forces her to walk across the desert with them, whipping her along the way. When he meets Daenerys face to face, he basically tells her he's going to rape her, but he changes his tune when she mentions that she's the widow of Khal Drogo. Instead, he informs her that she'll be sent to Vaes Dothrak to live with all the other widows of fallen Khals.

In the books, Moro is Khal Drogo's ally, and he is atually present when Daenerys is presented to Drogo in A Game of Thrones. He is mentioned later as an ally of Daenerys's during A Feast for Crows. While the TV show already isn't following the book series exactly, their relationship in the books suggests that they may become friends before he ships her to Vaes Dothrak. I spoke to actor Joe Naufahu about what's coming up for Moro on the show, and he hinted at some crazy upcoming scenes between his character and Daenerys:

"There are fireworks, I'll tell you that much . . . it's a tenuous relationship and while there is a lot of respect being paid to Drogo, there's also still that bubbling magnetism between the two of them, and it's going to be interesting for you guys to see how it develops."

Bubbling magnetism? Fireworks? Does this mean Daenerys is getting a new love interest? I asked whether he was hinting at a romance, and he said, "Moro is kept down by the traditions and the Dothraki way, but you're just going to have to wait and see." Oh, we will wait and see.
