23 TV Shows That Have Been Brought Back From the Dead

We're in a renaissance of revived television! Shows are returning left and right, and there's nothing you can do to stop them. Heroes Reborn is currently airing, The X-Files is around the corner, and several projects (like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot!) are in the works. Meanwhile, thanks to platforms like Netflix and Yahoo, some of our favorite shows were essentially saved from cancellation — I'm looking at you, Community. Check out the 23 series below that you may have thought were over forever, but either have already returned or are on their way back to the small (or big) screen.

01
Full House
Everett Collection
ABC

Full House

Full House is back! Well, a new version called Fuller House, anyway. Netflix is reviving the popular '90s series, and most of the original cast is reprising their roles. Unfortunately, the Olsen twins aren't on board . . . yet.

02
The X-Files
Everett Collection
Fox

The X-Files

This is one of the most highly anticipated revivals of them all. The X-Files is returning in 2016, and Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) are both starring, alongside a ton of new yet familiar faces.

03
Boy Meets World
Everett Collection
ABC

Boy Meets World

If you thought you would never see Cory and Topanga after Boy Meets World ended in 2000, you were wrong. The characters returned to a new series that features their daughter. It's aptly named Girl Meets World.

04
Firefly
Everett Collection
20th Century Studios

Firefly

Despite only lasting one season, Firefly remains an integral part of the Joss Whedon universe. The 2002 sci-fi series starring Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, and Alan Tudyk was made into a movie called Serenity in 2005.

05
Cougar Town
Everett Collection
TBS

Cougar Town

Cougar Town is the little show that could. The Courteney Cox-starring comedy aired for three seasons on ABC but was constantly on the bubble of cancellation due to schedule changes and poor ratings. TBS saved the show, picking it up for a final three seasons. It concluded in March 2015.

06
Damages
Everett Collection
FX

Damages

Despite Emmy nominations and a heavyweight star as its lead, Glenn Close's Damages ended its run on FX after three seasons. Luckily for fans, DirecTV resurrected the show for another two seasons.

07
Beavis and Butt-Head
Everett Collection

Beavis and Butt-Head

Mike Judge's grown-up cartoon aired on MTV for four years in the early '90s. It lived on in the pop-culture lexicon and returned to the network with new episodes in 2011.

08
Prison Break
Everett Collection
Fox

Prison Break

Stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell are returning for the upcoming Prison Break revival. The news was announced in Summer 2015, and it would be a 10-episode series.

09
Entourage
Everett Collection

Entourage

After rumblings for years, HBO's Entourage finally got a movie based on the series that ran from 2004 to 2011. Unfortunately, the movie flopped at the box office. Maybe the team would have better luck with a small-screen revival?

10
The Killing
Everett Collection
Netflix

The Killing

FX's The Killing, aka The Show That Cannot Be Killed, was canceled after two seasons. After negotiations, the network aired a third season but then canceled the show again. Despite the drop in viewership, Netflix picked up the show, and the final, fourth season was released to conclude the series last year.

11
Xena: Warrior Princess
Everett Collection
Universal Pictures

Xena: Warrior Princess

The beloved series has a reboot in the works, and original star Lucy Lawless may "have both a role on screen and behind the scenes."

12
Sex and the City
Everett Collection
HBO

Sex and the City

Sex and the City was such a huge hit for HBO that, of course, it couldn't just end after the show concluded in 2004. Creator Michael Patrick King revived the show for a 2008 movie and a less critically acclaimed sequel in 2010. Last year, rumors swirled about a possible third movie, thanks to some cryptic tweets from the cast, but no official news was confirmed.

13
The Muppets
Everett Collection

The Muppets

Hopefully kids these days know that ABC's Muppets isn't the first iteration of the treasured series. The Muppet Show originally ran from 1976 to 1981, and several movies and another TV series (Muppets Tonight) came out before the latest show.

14
Family Guy
Fox

Family Guy

It's hard to imagine Seth MacFarlane's flagship show being canceled, but that's exactly what happened in 2001, after three seasons. Fox brought back the series with new episodes two years later, after impressive DVD sales and high ratings for syndicated reruns.

15
Scrubs
Everett Collection
Disney

Scrubs

Ah, the strange case of Scrubs. The medical comedy was a hit on NBC, but the network chose not to renew the show after its seventh season. ABC swooped in and aired two more seasons with new cast members, including Eliza Coupe (Happy Endings) and Dave Franco.

16
Arrested Development
Everett Collection
Netflix

Arrested Development

Perhaps the ultimate cult hit, Arrested Development only aired for three seasons on Fox. Due to popular demand, creator Mitch Hurwitz brought back the show for one season on Netflix. Despite poor reviews for the latest season, Ted Sarandos, Netflix's lead of content, said he's confident that a fifth season will happen.

17
24
Everett Collection
20th Century Studios

24

Fox's intense action thriller 24 aired for eight seasons before ending in 2010. In May 2014, the series returned as a 12-episode reboot called 24: Live Another Day.

18
Heroes
NBC

Heroes

Heroes was a bona fide hit when it premiered in 2006, but due to dwindling ratings, NBC canceled the show after four seasons. We thought it was over, but last year, NBC announced it would be airing Heroes Reborn, an "event miniseries," which is currently airing. The cast is full of new and returning actors, including Zachary Levi and Greg Grunberg.

19
Veronica Mars
Everett Collection
Warner Bros.

Veronica Mars

If only Veronica Mars fans actually watched the show when it was on from 2004 to 2007, the detective series might still be running. Thankfully, creator Rob Thomas and star Kristen Bell rallied "Marshmallows" to contribute to a historic Kickstarter campaign, and the movie was released last year. The success even inspired a spinoff centered on Dick Casablancas!

20
The Comeback
HBO

The Comeback

Created by Michael Patrick King in 2005, The Comeback scored a small but dedicated audience, thanks to smart writing and star Lisa Kudrow. Though it was only on HBO for one season, the network revived it for a six-episode second season, which aired last year.

21
Community
NBC

Community

Community has long struggled to find its place on primetime. The comedy suffered from poor ratings and was constantly on the bubble at NBC. When the network finally did cancel it following season five, Yahoo picked it up for a sixth season. All that's left is a movie! Stay tuned for that.

22
Twin Peaks
Everett Collection

Twin Peaks

David Lynch's bizarre mystery series ended on a huge cliffhanger after it was canceled following season two. Showtime has plans to revive the series for a limited run, and we have some burning questions about what exactly will happen on the show. Recently, Lynch said he was uncertain if the reboot would actually happen due to "complications." As of right now, it's back on.

23
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Everett Collection
NBC

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

The Fresh Prince himself, Will Smith, is producing a revival of the '90s show that launched his career. Supposedly, it will be another fish-out-of-water story.
