>> It's On with Alexa Chung may be cancelled, but Alexa Chung's not done with the United States just yet. She still has a contract to fulfill with MTV, and she's just signed up to collaborate with J.Crew's Madewell brand.
Chung first became familiar with Madewell through an ex-roommate who works for the label; he called her up to tell her she was all over their inspiration boards. She liked the idea of working with Madewell, she told Vogue, because they were so laidback: “I’d always been a bit cautious of collaborations — that they’d just be a money thing. When I moved to New York, Madewell asked to meet me. I went in, and I liked the company. Everything about our meeting was very organic and casual; not full-on. They were open to suggestions.”
So what does the collection entail? »
The Alexa Chung for Madewell collection will be available starting in September, with the design goal being, according to Alexa, "Things my girlfriends would wear, and say, ‘That’s sick!’” There will be no eighties or nineties influence, but rather: “I want to bring back forties tea dresses, sixties mod dresses. . . . I want to bring cute back." High-waisted pants and jeans, velvet dresses with Peter Pan collars, a coat based on a vintage children’s coat from Harrods will all be in the mix; plus, "we’re doing dungaree dresses.”
