Of Course You Can Dress Sexy in Your 40s — Just Ask Tina Fey and Amy Poehler

Out of all the fashion rules we've broken — rocking horizontal stripes, wearing white well after Labor Day — there's none we've been so happy to kiss goodbye than those that put an age limit on certain styles. Just looking at Jane Fonda or Helen Mirren, we know very well that "sexy" doesn't have a cutoff, and it seems that Amy Poehler and Tina Fey agree.

In their cover story for the January '16 issue of Glamour magazine, Amy talked to Tina about a sexy party look she wears in the comedy besties' new film, Sisters.

"Did you wanna push back against the stereotype that fortysomething women can't dress sexy?" Amy asked. To which Tina replied, "No, well, my character is someone who's gonna dress like that into her eighties." And then the coversation got really good.

Poehler: "Of course women in their forties can dress sexy. And, you know, the term sexy is very subjective."
Fey: "Yeah, I do also think that by the time you are in your forties, what you want to wear and what you think is sexy is not always, like, for another person. It's what makes you feel good... Sexy is all relative. As an SNL writer I have seen people who are famously sexy, women famous for being beautiful, come in as hosts. The male writers would be so excited; then a couple days in, they are over it. If you know you have 0.000 shot at the person, your body kind of shuts down—and it's more about who you actually relate to."

Boom — there you have it. So if you hadn't already adopted this motto, now's the time. Wear what you want . . . and keep scrolling to see these gorgeous, over-40 ladies put their sexy style on display in the photo shoot ahead.

Tina leaned on Amy wearing a strapless Stella McCartney jumpsuit and Chloé ring and bracelet, while her pal rocked a Jason Wu jacket and pants, a Me & Ro pendant necklace, and a long Catbird necklace.

Tina Fey also wore a Roland Mouret dress for the shoot, paired with Jennifer Fisher earrings and Sophie Hughes Jewelry rings.

Amy smirked for the camera in a Nicole Miller Artelier jumpsuit, Rebecca Peacock earrings, and a Catbird necklace.
