The Cannes Film Festival kicked off today, and celebrities will be flocking to the South of France in the hopes of receiving the coveted Palme d'Or best film prize. This glamorous film festival gained popularity in the 1950s with iconic attendees including Grace Kelly and Brigitte Bardot, and now is known for its swanky yacht parties and amazing red-carpet gowns. Hi, it's Allison McNamara. Welcome back to Fab Sugar TV. The Cannes Film Festival is coming up. It gained a glamorous reputation in the 1950's with famous attendees like Grace Kelly and Brigitte Bardot. Today it's known not only for the best film prize but also for the swanky yacht parties and gorgeous red carpet gowns. So accordingly we've rounded up our ten favorite gowns from past festivals in today's FabFlash. Angelina Jolie's leg became famous at this year's Oscars. But it wasn't the first time And the star there to there. Her nude, drape Versace gown in 2009, had a thigh high slit that revealed plenty of leg, and gorgeous. heels. Her fiery red lips, paired with the soft hue and flowing silhouette make this our favorite red carpet look. Diane Kruger knows how to pull off bold color. In she was a vision in hot pink in Jason Wu. She accessorized the eye-popping gown with a sparkling star necklace and a Roger Vivier clutch for a look that was elegant and fresh. Elizabeth Banks brought old Hollywood glamour to the South of France in 2009. Selecting a striking one shoulder Giorgio Armani Prive gown with beautiful bustling down the back. Her Chopard jewels and retro hairstyle were the perfect complement to this look. Gwen Stefani brought her punky personality to Cannes, selecting a black sequin Stella McCartney jumpsuit with sheer sleeves and a plunging neckline. We like how she took a risk, not wearing a gown. And played up the '70s style with voluminous curly lock and a pretty pink pout. Kate Beckinsale perfected white on the red carpet in this off-the-shoulder Gucci premiere silk gown. Complete with a metallic beaded bow, and a waistband that accentuates her curves. long lose waves added to the romantic feel of her whole look. Michelle Williams paid homage to the house of Chanel with this archival vintage gown from 1926. The vintage style with its tea length straight silhouette and sleeves is a daring one to pull off on the red carpet, but it plays perfectly to Michelle's tomboyish style. Nicole Kidman when printed in Gucci in 2003, choosing a red and pink halter dress in their signature pattern. She accessorized with not one but two Bvlgari multi-color cuffs, one on each wrist for a look that felt summery and party appropriate. In 2011, Penelope Cruz wowed in this nude lilac tulle gown by Marchesa. It has a really sheer, barely-there effect, but definite glamour thing to the gorgeous beeding. Sarah Jessica Parker looked beautiful in floral in 2011, optingElie Saab gown with lace detailing at the neckline, waist and sleeves. She complete her look with a stunning statement necklace, and diamond earrings. Last but not least, we have Zoe Saldana taking stripes to a whole new level in this breathtaking Armani Prive gown. She polished off this structural gown with a gold cuff and metallic suede heals by Nicholas Kirkwood. The Cannes Film Festival always delivers beautiful red carpet gowns.
