>> While fashion types are currently migrating to Venice for tomorrow's Chanel Cruise 2010 show — Karl Lagerfeld arrived Monday with Baptiste Giabiconi and his runway favorites Siri Tollerod, Heidi Mount, Liu Wen, Charlotte di Calypso, and Denisa Dvorakova are all already in town for fittings and the dinner Karl's hosting tonight — many are continuing on to the Cannes Film Festival, which opened today.
In fact, the Chanel theme carries over in Cannes — Jan Kounen’s Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky, starring Anna Mouglalis and Mads Mikkelsen, screens May 24, the closing day. In between now and then, Carine Roitfeld — as well as Donatella Versace and Kenneth Cole — will make her annual appearance at amfAR's Cinema Against AIDS benefit on May 21 at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, which also features an exhibition by photographer Bruce Weber.
Lily Cole, Laetitia Casta have films debuting »
Christian Dior and French Elle are hosting a dinner in honor of Marion Cotillard just a few days later, to celebrate the launch of the next step in her Lady Dior campaign — a 6 minute thriller, "The Lady Noire Affaire," directed by La vie en rose's Olivier Dahan, which debuts May 20. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are throwing their annual blow-out at Baoli on May 22, and DSquared2 is celebrating the global launch of the brand's new eyewear on May 18.
A few models are also hitting the red carpet: Lily Cole, who plays Valentina in Terry Gilliam’s fantasy flick The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (above), will be in town for that movie's debut, and Laetitia Casta plans to wear a custom-made Givenchy dress to the screening of Tsai Ming-liang’s Face, based on a madcap Taiwanese movie director who travels to the Louvre to shoot a movie inspired by the myth of Salome (Casta plays Salome). Eva Herzigova and Milla Jovovich are also expected, the former as a Chopard ambassador, and the latter for L'Oreal.
