For Spring 2014, Raf Simons invited us into the Christian Dior version of the Garden of Eden. But much like artists like Hieronymus Bosch, Simons found the darker side of paradise, splattering classic Dior shapes like the Bar jacket and the New Look full skirt with printed graffiti-like slogans, sliced pleats and cutouts at the waist. Shirtdresses were overlaid with metallic bustiers, and charming cocktail dresses got a punk edge from schoolboy badges pinned to the bustline. There were moments of pure ladylike loveliness, like the ankle strap pumps and the black plissé cocktail dresses, but there is something afoot in Eden.
