Cleopatra Halloween Costume

A Fabby Halloween: Cleopatra

This striking Pharaoh was one of the most important figures in Egypt's history. Using her wits and ravishing looks, Cleopatra claimed power and victory across the lands. Her story of power and love was so powerful it prompted directors to portray her story in numerous Hollywood movies; Joseph L. Mankiewicz's rendition starring Elizabeth Taylor was my favorite. Achieving her look is sexy and easy. All you need is a simple long jersey dress (in black or white), tons of gold accessories and serious makeup. Hold your head high and walk like an Egyptian . . .

To get your Cleopatra groove on,

Hi Aniya - Cleopatra WAS a white woman. Her father was the Greek Ptolemy XII. She immersed herself into the Egyptian culture and is therefore is often thought of as Egyptian since she dressed as the Egyptians did and spoke their language.

growing up there were a lot of people who felt that this was one of the best costumes, and i guess that wearing a toga of sorts is a pretty inexpensive thing to do.

why would you be offended that they portray Cleopatra as "white" - it's not like they do that because they hate all other races, they do it because they want a certain actress and they don't care whether or not she has the right skin color - I could understand if you think it's dumb and not very realistic, as I do when they portray Greeks or Romans with British accents (they're Italian and Greek! they would have darker skin and have Italian/Spanish-sounding accents!) but offended? that's seems a bit much...

Just thought I'd point out that Cleopatra was more of Macedonian heritage than Egyptian. So she actually probably looked more Greek than egyptian or african.

I've dressed up as Cleopatra on a previous Halloween. It was a lot of fun. (Although I'm 'white'...I wonder if I offended someone with my costume? Please.)

I kind of think this costume is way overdone--I see so many girls dressed up like Cleopatra each year.

lol I really really hate how Hollywood portrays Cleopatra as a white woman, it's offensive. I actually was thinking about dressing up like her for Halloween this year hmm.
